Falcons outshot RIT, 80-22, in the series
U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Logan Drackett made 36 saves to lead RIT to a 1-0 win over Air Force in an Atlantic Hockey Association game, Friday, Oct. 25, at the Cadet Ice Arena. The Tigers swept the series, despite getting out-shot, 80-22, in the two games.
After a scoreless first period, the Falcons went on a five-minute power play after Adam Brubacher was called for a major penalty for a hit on Max Harper. The Falcons had four shots on goal, but the game was still scoreless midway through the second period. With nine minutes left in the period, the Falcons had a flurry as Trevor Stone had two quick shots and Alex Mehnert had a rebound, but Drackett kept the net clean. In a four-on-four situation, Air Force had a shot that was saved. Darren Brady poked the puck free and the Tigers had a 2-on-1 rush. Caleb Moretz set up Jake Hamacher with 5:41 left in the second quarter for the game's first goal. The Falcons outshot the Tigers, 24-7, in the first 40 minutes, but trailed by a goal entering the third.
The Falcons came out in the third period and had five shots on goal in the first three minutes, but were unable to beat Drackett. With 2:09 left in the third, the Falcons pulled the goalie for the extra attacker and had two shots on goal that were both saved.
Air Force outshot RIT, 36-11, in the game. AF was 0-for-5 on the power play while RIT (5-1-0, 2-0-0 AHA) was 0-for-7. Zach LaRocque made 10 saves for the Falcons.
"I feel bad for our guys," head coach Frank Serratore said. "Sometimes life just isn't fair. It's tough right now. Frustrating. We are in a zero-sum business. In our business, it is win or lose and we lost. But, there is some good news. We established a good foundation in our game. We just need to find a way to score goals. We ran into a red-hot goalie and we didn't get any puck luck."
Air Force (0-6-0, 0-2-0 AHA) travels to Sacred Heart for a two-game conference series, Friday-Saturday, Nov. 1-2, in Bridgeport, Conn.
