Fumagalli Sets Wins Record At ITA Mountain Regional

Air Force women's tennis completed day three at the 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Championships Thursday, held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the UNLV campus. Senior TJ Fumagalli earned a pair of wins to become Air Force's winningest player in program history.

Fumagalli notched career wins 203 and 204 to set a new school record for career wins, surpassing 2019 graduate Elizabeth Barnickel's 203 career wins.

Fumagalli tied the school record in doubles, teaming with Meredith Jones to defeat Kegeyama/Chen of New Mexico 8-5 in the round of 16. The duo, ranked #2, fell in the semifinal to #7 Asana/Huango of UNLV 8-3.

Fumagalli set the school record in a flight two consolation match against Lindsay Hung of Utah 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6).

Freshman Courtney Swift fell in the singles flight two quarterfinals to Cali Fuller of Weber State 6-3, 1-6, 6-1.

Air Force also won a doubles consolation matcha as the duo of Alex Kuo and Swift defeated Gorbacheva/Del Barrio of Nevada 8-6.

The Falcons also earned three more wins in the singles. In the flight one consolation bracket, Nadeen Lieberman defeated Elizabeth Mintusova or Nevada 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6) and Sydney Fitch defeated Erandi Martinez of UTEP 6-0, 6-4. Also in the flight two consolation bracket, Kuo defeated Elinor Beazley of Northern Arizona, 6-2, 6-3.

"We've gotten better in matches and saw a lot of positive things from this week in both singles and doubles," head coach Kim Gidley said. "For the second day in a row, a Falcon saved saved match points to come back and win. Nadeen saved five match points before coming back to win the match after losing the first set to conference opponent Nevada. Nadeen fought hard and it was a great win for her. TJ also fought back after losing the second set to win. There couldn't be a more deserving cadet-athlete than TJ to set the school wins record. This team is getting better all the time and I am excited for them."
