Air Force women’s gymnastics won first-place in three events en route to team win
SEATTLE, Wash. - The Air Force women's gymnastics team won three events led by individual first-place finishes from Anna Salamone (vault and uneven parallel bars), Cam Barber (balance beam) and Tyler Davis (floor), to secure a first-place team finish against UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater at Seattle Pacific University, Saturday evening in Brougham Pavilion. The Falcons finished with a 194.200 team score while Seattle Pacific finished with 192.600 for a second-place finish, and UW-Oshkosh (189.100) and UW-Whitewater (185.025) finished third and fourth, respectively.
Salamone had a highlight night, winning first-place in two events. The Bayport, New York, native posted a 9.700 on the vault to tie Darian Burns (SPU) for first. She was the only Falcon to finish in the top-five of the event as Air Force posted a 48.050 team score for second place.
Salamone then went on to win first-place in the uneven bars for the second time this season, scoring a 9.900 and tying a personal season-high. She has now scored 9.900 on the uneven bars in two-straight meets.
Teammates Mariana Murphy and Jessica Kirkpatrick also finished in the top-five of the uneven bars field. Murphy posted a personal season-high 9.850, tying her career-best mark, while Kirkpatrick posted a personal season-high, 9.750. Their combined efforts helped lead Air Force to a season-high score (48.775), and first-place finish in the event.
Barber, the Falcons leading beam specialist, helped propel Air Force into a comfortable lead, posting a 9.850, tying her career-best mark, and securing her second first-place finish on the beam this season. Senior teammate Emily Luers posted a 9.775, tying for fourth, while teammates Riley Hill and Tyler Davis tied for sixth with 9.750 marks. The Falcons' productivity on the beam was enough for a first-place finish (48.800).
Air Force had a strong showing on the floor exercise, winning three of the top-five positions. Davis, Air Force's leading floor exercise specialist, posted personal season-high 9.850 to lead the Falcons with a second-place finish. Her all-around efforts yielded marks high enough for a second-place finish (38.700) in the all-around event, second only to Burns of SPU.
Sophomore teammate Heidi Sand finished third (9.750) with a personal career-best mark, and Pixie Brock finished fourth with a 9.700 in her floor exercise debut. Freshman Cameo Stapleton took fifth-place with a 9.650. The Falcons finished first in the event with a 48.575 team score.
Up next, Air Force heads south to take on Centenary College in the Falcons' first head-to-head meet of the season, 6 p.m. CT, Friday, March 1, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
