Air Force Wraps up Action at UCCS, Iowa State

Six freshman earned top-10 marks at UCCS, while Scott Johnson paced a trio of milers in Iowa.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A small handful of Air Force track and field athletes wrapped up competition this afternoon (Feb. 9) in two meets. Six freshmen collected top-10 marks at the Mountain Lion Open in Colorado Springs, while three Air Force milers competed at the Iowa State Classic in Ames.
At the Mountain Lion Open, freshmen Calvin Ciganik and Ryan Brown recorded matching clearances of 14'10¾" to finish fourth and fifth, respectively, in the men's pole vault, while classmates Frankie Porambo and Heidi Liles added top-10 marks in the women's event. Porambo recorded a clearance of 11'5" to finish sixth, while Liles cleared 10'11" to finish seventh.
Another pair of freshmen represented the Falcons on the track after advancing into the finals during yesterday's competition. La'akea Aiu posted a time of 8.97 to finish sixth in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, while Wyatt Murphy earned the same placement in the 60-meter dash (7.08).
At the Iowa State Classic, sophomore Scott Johnson finished within the top half of the 69-runner field, as he posted a time of 4:07.77 to finish 25th. Senior Noah Riley posted a time of 4:10.22 to finish 38th, while junior Patrick Sullivan rounded out the trio with a season-best, 43rd-place time of 4:10.92.
The Falcons return to the Academy next Friday (Feb. 15) to close out the home portion of the indoor season with the Air Force Collegiate Open. The meet, a final tune-up before the conference championships, is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. (MT).
