Falcon Women’s Hoops Comes up Short in OT Thriller

Air Force women’s basketball dropped a 59-56 overtime contest to Wyoming, Saturday afternoon at USAFA
USAF Academy, Colo. - Wyoming women's basketball narrowly escaped with a 59-56 win against Air Force in the Senior Day overtime thriller. The Falcons, who are now 8-19 with a 4-12 mark in league play, were paced by Kaelin Immel who dropped a game-high 18 points. Wyoming improved to 19-6 overall with a 12-4 mark in the Mountain West.
Immel, who notched her fourth-straight double-figure scoring mark, added two boards, two assists and two steals to her stat line. She shot 7-20 from the field but hit a critical three-ball that put Air Force in position to tie in the waning seconds of the game. She has 18 double-digit scoring marks this season.
Freshman teammate Riley Snyder recorded her second-straight, 13th of the season, double-figure scoring mark with a 15-point performance. She shot 50.0-percent from the field and was perfect from the free throw line (4-4). The Fruita, Colorado, native collected six defensive rebounds and added two assists a block and a steal to her stat line.
Senior co-team captain Venessannah Itugbu had a proper showing in her Senior Day game, posting a game-high and career-high five blocks while collecting six rebounds and three steals. Freshman teammate Briana Autrey played for a career-high 43-minutes, adding nine points and two assists to the final tally.
Sophomore guard Emily Conroe led the team with eight rebounds but was unable to find the bottom of the bucket, posting zero points for this first time in conference play this season.
The Cowgirls were led by Marta Gomez and Bailee Cotton who recorded a double-double apiece. Gomez dropped 17-points with 10 rebounds while Cotton collected 11 rebounds with 10 points. Sladjana Rakovic, who kept Wyoming alive in the waning seconds of regulation, scored 10 points and collected five rebounds.
Wyoming out-rebounded Air Force, 41-34, and outs-hot the Falcons 44.4-percent to 33.9-percent but Air Force turned the ball over significantly less than the Wyoming (11-19) and scored 18 points from Cowgirl turnovers.
Up next, the Falcons travel to Reno, Nevada to take on the Nevada Wolf Pack at 6:30 p.m. PT, Monday, Mar. 4, at the Lawlor Events Center. Air Force will play for a regular-season sweep of Nevada following a 79-74 overtime win at USAFA on January 19.
