Baseball Drops Series Finale to Dallas Baptist

USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy baseball team dropped the series finale to Dallas Baptist, 30-7, Sunday afternoon, March 24, at Falcon Field.

Air Force's (9-10) offense had another productive day, collecting 10 hits to score its seven runs. Freshman Alexander Pup led the charge with a career-best three hit day, including a double. Senior Drew Wiss had a career-high tying three runs driven in.

On the mound, freshman CJ Dornak had a successful debut, tossing a scoreless frame with his first collegiate strikeout. Sophomore Joe Martinez III also had a scoreless inning, with a strikeout as well.

The first inning was one for milestones, as senior Ethan Nichols collected his 100th career strikeout in a 1-2-3 frame. In the bottom of the first, junior Ashton Easley singled in a run to get his 100th career hit, and give Air Force the early 1-0 lead.

From there, it was all Patriots (18-5) as they struck for 13 runs in the second, five in the third and five in the fourth to make it 23-1 in the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth, Air Force struck back with four runs on an RBI ground out from senior Gabe Martinez, RBI single from senior Colby Brown, and a two-RBI single from Wiss, to make it 23-5.

Following a scoreless fifth, the Falcons got two more in the sixth on a sac fly from Wiss and an RBI double from junior Tommy Gillman, making it 23-7. The Patriots were not done scoring, though, as they put up five more in the seventh and two in the eighth to result in the final tally.

Air Force is back on the road this midweek, as they head to California for a two-game set against Pacific, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 26-27. First pitch on Tuesday is set for 7 p.m. MT, while Wednesday will have a 5 p.m. MT start time.
