Women’s Gymnastics Sets Academy Record to Win MPSF Championship

Air Force women’s gymnastics posted an Academy record team score, 195.725, to win first-ever MPSF Championship title
SEATTLE, Washington - The Air Force women's gymnastics team posted a 195.725 team score to win its first-ever MPSF Championship title, setting a new Academy team score record and the third-highest mark by any MPSF championship team. Anna Salamone won individual titles in the vault and uneven parallel bars while sophomore teammate Tyler Davis won the floor exercise title. The Falcons set season-high team scores on the bars and floor exercise, posting 49.000 in each event.
Salamone led the Falcons with a pair of first-place finishes, winning first on the bars with a 9.925 mark, and following up with a stellar performance on the vault posting a personal career-high 9.875 to win first in the event. Salamone, who won her third-straight title on the uneven bars and second-straight MPSF title on the vault, has five individual MPSF titles to date.
Davis led the charge on the floor as she posted personal career-best 9.950 to win her second-straight MPSF floor exercise title. Davis' score ties Jessa Liegl (2004) and Allison Tood (2003) for the Academy record in the event. Davis competed as the Falcons' all-around gymnast, scoring season-high marks on the vault (9.850) and bars (9.700), while adding a 9.750 mark on the beam. Davis' vault score yielded her a second-place finish behind teammate Salamone. Her all-around effort yielded her a second-place finish in the event with a personal career-high score 39.250. Her all-around score is the second-highest individual score at the Academy.
Analise Howard put on a strong performance for the Falcons as the senior finished tied for fourth on the balance beam (9.825) and tied for seventh on the bars (9.825). Both scores marked personal season-high numbers for Howard. Senior teammate Emily Luers also posted a season-high mark to finish tied fourth on the beam (9.825).
Sophomore vault specialist Heidi Sand posted a 9.800 mark to finish in a two-way tie for third on the vault, helping the Falcons to finishes in the top-three positions of the event. Senior teammate Mariana Murphy posted a 9.825 on the bars to finish in a seven-way tie for seventh place.
Two-time MPSF Freshman of the Week, Cameo Stapleton, posted a 9.800 on the floor exercise in her conference championship debut. The mark tied her career-best while placing her in a five-way tie for eighth in the event.
Up next, The Falcons will prepare for the NCAA post-season and USAG Collegiate Nationals. USAG Nationals will be held in Bridgeport, Connecticut, April 12-14.
