Last Week in Review
- The Falcons won their lone game this past week, knocking off San Diego State, 9-5, in the home and conference opener. The final two games of the series were postponed due to inclement weather.
Washed Out Weekend vs. SDSU
- The final two games of the weekend series against San Diego State were postponed due to cold and snowy weather in Colorado. Saturday's game was in the bottom of the second when it was called. SDSU was leading 2-0 at the time. Both games will be attempted to be made up when AF takes on the Aztecs in San Diego, April 18-20. The halted game will begin where it left off, in the bottom of the second.
Gilbert the GOAT
- Senior relief pitcher Jake Gilbert is off to a roaring start in the mound for the Falcons this season, as he has yet to give up an earned run over his first three appearances, totaling 12.2 innings. He has struck out 13 batters to just four walks, and is holding opponents to a .159 batting average. Two of those appearances have resulted in wins (2-0), while his third resulted in a save. Gilbert is one of just 34 pitchers in the nation, and the only in the MW Conference, to not allow an earned run so far this season (Min 1 inn./game).
The Price is Right
Freshman RHP Nathan Price has burst onto the scene for the Air Force Falcons to start the season, as the youngster is a perfect 2-0 in his first two outings, with a 1.04 ERA in 8.2 innings. Price is holding opponents to a .176 batting average, and he has four strikeouts to just one walk. Against No. 14 ECU, Price went the final 5.0 innings in relief, only allowing two hits and one run, while striking out a pair.
Don't Run on Dau
Senior captain catcher Rob Dau has always had a knack for throwing out would-be base stealers, as he has been top-five in the conference in that category all three seasons, including leading the league as a sophomore in 2017. This season, he has only thrown out two so far, but he has three pickoffs to lead the league.
It Just Comes "Easley"
Junior outfielder Ashton Easley has had a hot start to his 2019 campaign. He has done it all, leading the team with a .333 batting average and a .567 slugging, smacking two triples and a home run, while collecting a total of 11 hits (tied for team lead). He has a hit in each of the first nine games of the season. He also has gone a perfect 4-for-4 in steals, and has no errors in 15 chances while patrolling right field.
Double Goose Eggs
With its two shuts on the opening weekend of the 2019 season, over ULM 1-0 and Southern 13-0, the Falcons are just one of 36 teams in D1 with multiple shutouts. Joining them from the MW Conference are Nevada, who has two as well.
Active Career Leader
- With such a successful career to this point, it shouldn't come as much surprise that senior Nic Ready is among the NCAA active career leaders in multiple categories. The Texas is the active career leader in doubles, while ranking second among active players in RBIs, and total bases, and fourth in home runs.
On the Horizon
- Air Force returns home for a midweek contest against in-state rival Northern Colorado, Tuesday, March 12. First pitch against the Bears from Falcon Field is set for 2 p.m.
