Five players had multi hit games on the day
The offense had another solid output, striking for 11 hits to score the five runs. Five players had multi-hit games, led by two-hit, two RBI days from junior Ashton Easley and senior Rob Dau. Both of Easley's hits were doubles, while Dau also had a two bagger.
On the mound, freshman Stevan Fairburn Jr. had 2.2 strong innings of relief, allowing two unearned runs on four hits while striking out one. After Fairburn, junior Jeff Gerlica returned to the hill and retired both batters he faced, including a strikeout.
Fresno State struck first in the bottom of the first getting a pair of runs to make it 2-0 early. Both pitchers settled in after that to keep the tally into the fourth.
There, AF battled back with a pair of runs on an RBI single from senior Nic Ready, followed by a Dau RBI single to tie the contest. FS was quick to respond, however, tagging a solo homer in the bottom half to retake the lead, 3-2. They built on that lead in the bottom of the fifth, striking for four more to up the tally to 7-2 with four to play.
From there, both offenses stalled until the top of the eighth, when AF got an RBI double from Dau to make it a four run game into the bottom of the eighth. The Bulldogs were not done yet, however, as they got a pair more to come across to make it 9-3 into the ninth.
Air Force did all if could to rally, as a two RBI double from Easley made it 9-5, but the deficit proved too much as the Falcons fell by four.
The Falcons will have the midweek off before returning to action next weekend, Thursday-Saturday, April 18-20, for a four game set at San Diego State. Air Force and SDSU will finish the halted game from March before playing the regularly scheduled three game set.
