Kaelin Immel led Air Force women’s basketball with 16 points and four assists
BOULDER, Colo. – Air Force fell to the Colorado Buffaloes, 88-46, in the road-slate opener, Saturday afternoon, in the CU Events Center. The Falcons drop to a 0-2 record while CU improved to 2-0.
Senior guard Kaelin Immel led the Falcons with 16 points and four assists while also snagging five rebounds. Immel knocked down two from three-pointers and shot perfect from the free throw line (4-4), alongside teammate Riley Snyder who hit a team high 6-6 from the line. Snyder, who got the team's only block against the exceedingly tall Buffs, dropped 14 points including two of the five three-balls on the game.
The Falcons put up 11 points at the line shooting 85-percent (11-13), while the Buffs put up 10 points at the line shooting only 53-percent (10-19). Air Force had its best quarter of shooting in the first, knocking down 40-percent of shots from the floor (6-15). Colorado shot 62-percent on the game.
Senior guard Emily Conroe snagged a team-high six rebounds, marking her second-straight game of leading Air Force in boards. Air Force sophomore Nikki McDonald picked off a team-best three steals, just one mark shy of her career-best.
The Falcons played a scrappy first quarter as the Buffs settled into their offense, trailing just 20-18 at the end of the first 10 minutes. Colorado put some distance between themselves and the Falcons in the third quarter, scoring 25 points and shooting 71-percent where Air Force scored just seven points shooting 16-percent from the floor.
Colorado's Mya Hollingshed led the Buffalo charge, shooting 89-percent on the day and posting a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards. Five buffs scored double-digit figures. Jaylyn Sherrod was a play maker for Colorado as well, scoring 11 points with five assists and six steals. The tall Buffaloes out-rebounded the Falcons, 46-26.
Next up, the Falcons return home to host Nebraska Omaha at 5 p.m. MT, Tuesday, December 1. The game will mark the seventh meeting between the teams with the series tied at three apiece.
