Offense Lifts Air Force To 95-86 Win Over San José State

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball defeated San José State, 95-86, in Mountain West action Saturday afternoon at Clune Arena. The Falcons improved to 10-16, 4-10 MW with the win.
The senior post duo of Lavelle Scottie and Ryan Swan combined for 44 points, scoring 22 points each for the Falcons. Guard AJ Walker just missed out on a triple-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. Forward Ameka Akaya also reached double figures with 10 points off the bench.
The Falcons shot 55.6 percent from the field for the game. The dominant post play yielded a 41-30 advantage in rebounding a 42-26 advantage in points in the paint.
Air Force's 95 points and its 50 first-half points were the most in a game and most in a half in conference play so far this season.
Air Force started off shooting the ball well. The Falcons shot 56 percent from the field and 55 percent from three to build up a 50-37 halftime lead.
San Jose State stayed in the game with the three ball, connecting on 13 three's in 35 attempts. A pair of 12-0 runs in the game also helped keep the came close. Guard Richard Washington scored 31 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Spartans. Seneca Knight scored 13 points before fouling out.
Air Force also had solid contributions from Sid Tomes, Caleb Morris and Abe Kinrade. Tomes scored eight points and dished out four assists and added a team-high three steals. Morris scored nine points off the bench and Kinrade added six points and three rebounds.
Air Force returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Fresno State. The game tips at 7 pm PT and will be broadcast by ESPN3.
