Air Force women’s gymnastics finished third in a tri-meet with fifth-ranked Denver and Ball State
DENVER, Colo. - Air Force set a season-high 193.825 team score in a tri meet with Ball State hosted by the fifth-ranked University of Denver, Sunday afternoon in Magness Arena. The Falcons finished third behind Denver (197.425) and Ball State (194.875), setting season-high marks in three events; vault (48.675), uneven bars (48.300) and balance beam (48.300).
BALANCE BEAM
The Falcons opened tri-meet action on the beam where freshman Amber Boll set a career-best 9.750 to lead Air Force with an eighth place finish in the event. Tyler Davis posted the second-best score for the Falcons with a 9.700 and 12th-place finish. Pixie Brock recorded a career-best 9.675 for a 13th-place finish, followed by teammate Daija Stevenson who finished 14th with a 9.650. Heidi Sand rounded out the field for Air Force with a 9.175.
Denver took the high score (49.300) and the top-three finishes behind Alexis Vasquez's 9.950. Ball State finished second in the event with a 48.675.
FLOOR EXERCISE
The Falcons moved to the floor exercise where they posted a 48.550 team score, led by Davis' 9.900 and third-place finish, marking the second-straight meet of Davis finishing with a 9.9+ in the event. Air Force's next best score was Natalie Meyer who scored 9.700 and a 12th-placed tying finish. Teammates Cameo Stapleton and Anna Salamone finished tied for 14th with 9.675 marks. Brock followed up at 15th place with a 9.600 and Brooke Bruder finished 18th with a 9.150.
The Pioneers took the event with a 49.425 behind first and second-places finishes from Lynnzee Brown (9.950) and Maddie Karr (9.925). Ball State finished second in the event with a 49.200.
VAULT
Air Force's third event was the vault where Heidi Sand posted the high score for the Falcons, scoring a 9.800 for a ninth-place tie. Davis finished right behind Sand with a season-high 9.775 and 11th-place tie. Stevenson tied her season-best with a 9.725 and 13th-place finish. Grace Bardes tied her career-best mark 9.700 for a 16th-place finish while Bruder tied her season-best 9.650 for 17th-place. Meyer finished 18th with a 9.475.
The Pioneers claimed the top-three spots behind Maddie Karr's 9.900 first-place finish. Denver claimed the event with a 49.225 while Ball State finished second with a 49.100.
UNEVEN BARS
Anna Salamone led the way in the final event of the night, scoring a 9.850 for a tie at fifth-place. Amber Boll set a new career high, recording a 9.800 for eighth-place. Davis finished tied for 11th with a 9.700, a season-high. Other Air Force competitors were Jessica Kirkpatrick (9.525, 14th), Grace Bardes (9.425, 15th) and Stevenson (9.050, 17th). Tyler Davis posted a season-best 39.075 for a third-place finish behind Denver's Maddie Karr (39.600, 1st) and Lynzee Brown (39.500, 2nd).
Up next, Air Force returns to Cadet West Gym at the U.S. Air Force Academy to host a tri-meet with Seattle Pacific and Illinois State on Saturday, February 8. Action is slated for 2 p.m. MT.
