Women’s Hoops Falls at Wyoming, 68-52

Briana Autrey-Thompson led the Falcons with 13 points and four assists
LARAMIE - Air Force fell to the Wyoming Cowgirls, 68-52, Saturday afternoon in Arena-Auditorium. The Falcons head to their road-game finale with a 7-20 overall record and a 5-11 mark in the league while Wyoming improves to 10-6 in conference and 14-11 overall.
Sophomore point-guard Briana Autrey-Thompson led Falcons with 13 points and four assists. She knocked down 5-16 attempts from the floor and was perfect from the free throw line (3-3). Sophomore teammate Cierra Winters scored 10 points for the second time this season, hitting four of her seven attempts from the field. Emily Conroe led the rebounding effort with sox boards on the game.
Wyoming was led by Quinn Weidemann with 24 points. Teammates Alba Sanchez-Ramos and Jaeden Vaifanua dropped 12 points apiece, with Vaifanua recording a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Air Force shot 35-percent on the game to Wyoming's 47-percent. The Cowgirls scored 18 points at the free throw line where they knocked down 18-19 attempts.
The Falcons and Cowgirls were neck-and-neck through the first quarter with Air Force trailing by one, 15-14, after the first 10 minutes. Briana Autrey-Thompson led Air Force in scoring with four points while Kaelin Immel and Nikki McDonald scored three apiece from down range. Wyoming shot 40-percent from the floor while Air Force knocked down 33.3-percent of shots from the field.
Wyoming created some distance on Air Force in the second quarter, building a 37-22 lead at the halftime horn. The Cowgirls' shots started to fall consistently, knocking down 3-4 from beyond the arc, 70-percent from the field and a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line. Quinn Weidemann dropped 12 points for Wyoming in the first half. Kaelin Immel and Cierra Winters were leading the Falcons in scoring in the first half with five points each, Winters coming off the bench.
The Cowgirls shooting took a dip to 37-percent from the floor by the third quarter media timeout (4:01) but they were able to maintain a 15-point lead as Air Force still couldn't get their shots to fall. At the end of the quarter, the Falcons battled to within 10 points of the Cowgirls' lead. Autrey-Thompson, Immel, Snyder and Winters had seven points apiece while Air Force shooting improved to 43-percent from the field on the quarter.
Air Force continued to struggle hitting their shots but still manage to chip away at the Cowgirls' lead, getting as close as 11 points to the lead at the 3:15 mark. The Final 3:15 was long and dry for Air Force as they were scoreless to close the game at 68-52.
The Falcons will make a quick turn to the road-slate finale against New Mexico, Monday (Feb. 24), in Dreamstyle Arena. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. MT. Air Force will look to make even this season's 75-53 home loss to the Lobos on January 11.
