
Air Force opens regular season at Michigan State

Season Opener: Air Force opens the 2021-22 regular season with a pair of non-conference games at Michigan State, Friday-Saturday, Oct. 8-9, in East Lansing, MIch. Faceoff is at 7:05 pm ET each night.

Radio/Internet: Every regular-season and playoff game will be broadcast on Xtra Sports 1300 in Colorado Springs and will be available online at www.GoAirForceFalcons.com. Jay Ritchie will call the play-by-play while Dave Toller will provide color analysis. Pregame show begins 30 minutes before faceoff.
The Returners: Air Force returns its top three scorers from last season: Willie Reim (6-6-12), Brandon Koch (3-6-9) and Will Gavin (3-5-8). However, the Falcons return just 40 percent of the team's goals and 61 percent of the team's points from last season. Three defensemen from last season's team graduated, but the Falcons return four defensemen with game experience last season. Senior goalie Alex Schilling, the team MVP as a sophomore, returns after starting nine of 14 games last season. Schilling is the only goalie on this season's team with game experience.
The Fountain of Youth: Air Force is one of the youngest teams in the nation with 18 of the 28 players on the roster being either freshmen or sophomores. The Falcons have just two seniors, goalie Alex Schilling and forward Billy Duma. Air Force has eight juniors, nine sophomores and nine freshmen on the roster. Only four players on the roster have played more than 30 career games and none with more than 50.
About the Spartans: Michigan State was 7-18-2 overall last season, falling to Minnesota, 2-1 in overtime, in the Big Ten tournament last season. MSU opened the season with an exhibition game last week and fell to the U.S. National Development Program, 3-0, at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich. MSU has four NHL draft choices on the roster, including twin brothers Cole and Christian Krygier, who were both seventh round picks
Series vs. Michigan State: The Spartans lead the all-time series against Air Force, 6-0. Five of the games were played from 1972-73. The teams most recently met in the 2011 Icebreaker Classic in Grand Forks, N.D. Air Force will visit East Lansing for the first time since 1973.
Hit the Road Jack: Air Force will play eight of its first 10 games of the season on the road with the only home games being Oct. 15 vs. Denver and Oct. 29 vs. Colorado College. The Falcons have road trips to Michigan State, Lindenwood (Division I Independent) and Niagara with local, single-game trips to Denver and Colorado College. The schedule balances out as the Falcons have eight straight home games from Nov. 12 to Dec. 4. In the second half of the season, the Falcons are home and away every other weekend.
