Air Force to Face Army West Point in Virtual Meet

The two programs will compete, in their respective gyms, on Friday, March 19.
The Air Force men's gymnastics team remains at the Academy this week, when its hosts Army West Point in a virtual competition. The 14th-ranked Falcons, competing at Cadet West Gym, will face off with the 15th-ranked Black Knights, who will be competing at their home venue in West Point. The meet, which will also feature remote judging, will be contested through the virtual platform, Virtius.

LET'S MEET THE BLACK KNIGHTS
Army West Point is 1-5 on the year and ranked 15th in the national standings with a three-score average of 376.650. Matthew Davis is currently ranked among the nation's top 20 in the all-around, holding a three-score average of 77.017. Air Force edged Army West Point 379.100-377.850 at the All-Academy Championships in mid-February, where the teams finished second and third, respectively, behind Navy (395.200). Prior to facing the Falcons on Friday afternoon, Army West Point will take on gymnasts from the Niigata University of Management on Wednesday night.
AIR FORCE IN THE RANKINGS
With a three-meet average of 381.250, Air Force is ranked 14th in the national standings. The Falcons, ranked a team-high 12th on the still rings (63.217), have two gymnasts listed in the nation's top 20. Garrett Braunton is listed 17th on the both the high bar (three-score average of 13.400) and all-around (76.400), while Allen Shadan is ranked 20th on the parallel bars (13.583).
SAMPIER, SHADAN CLAIM TITLES IN FIRST VIRTUAL MEET
Highlighted by first-place finishes from Jake Sampier (floor exercise, 13.600) and Allen Shadan (still rings, 13.450), Air Force tallied its second-highest total of the season – 380.550 – during a virtual meet against California (389.700) on March 13. Shadan led the Falcons to three of the top-five individual scores, as Air Force accounted for a season-high team score of 63.700.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
Air Force remains at the Academy next week for another virtual competition. The Falcons will face William & Mary, currently ranked 12th in the national standings, on the Virtius platform at 5:00 p.m. (MT) on Saturday, March 27.
