Air Force Downed By RV/#23 Colorado State

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball (9-8, 2-4 MW) fell to RV/#23 Colorado State (15-1, 5-1 MW), 73-53, in Mountain West action Saturday afternoon at Clune Arena. Freshman guard Jake Heidbreder led the Falcons with a career-high 16 points.
Colorado State shot 57.4 percent from the field, while Air Force shot just 43.3 percent. Guard Isaiah Stevens led the Rams with 18 points and John Tonje added 15.
Cold shooting and turnovers put the Falcons in a hole in the first half. Air Force shot just 21 percent from the field in the opening half, while committing eight turnovers. Colorado State turned a close game into a double-digit lead with a 15-2 run to close the half. The Falcons trailed the Rams 31-17 at the half.
The Falcons were better offensively in the second half, shooting 43.3 percent from the field. Colorado State shot 69.6 percent in the second half however to pull away.
Heidbreder was 5 of 9 from the field and tied a career-high with three three's. He also added four rebounds, three assists and two steals in 40 minutes of action.
Guards AJ Walker and Ethan Taylor joined Heidbreder in double-figures. Walker scored 13 points, adding two rebounds and two assists. Taylor scored 10 points, and had a team-high six rebounds.
Air Force had five blocked shots, all by way from its freshmen centers Lucas Moerman and Ryan Corner. Moerman had three swats and Corner had the first two of his career. Corner also had a career-high four rebounds. Camden Vander Zwaag was Air Force's top reserve with six points.
The Falcons had their best crowd of the season, drawing 2,579 fans.
Air Force returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 25 at San Jose State. Tip time is 7 pm PT and the game will be streamed online by the Mountain West Network.
