Koch scored two in 6-3 win over CC

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Senior defenseman Brandon Koch scored two goals to lead Air Force to a 6-3 win over Colorado College, Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Academy's Cadet Ice Arena. With the win, the Falcons and Tigers split the two-game non-conference series and CC retains the Pikes Peak Trophy.
Air Force opened the scoring just 2:42 into the game. Clayton Cosentino forced a turnover in the neutral zone and then set up Will Gavin in the slot. Gavin netted his team-leading fifth of the season for a 1-0 lead. The Tigers answered on Stanley Cooley's goal at 5:20. Cooley's goal started a stretch of thee goals in 64 seconds. Air Force regained the lead when Chris Hedden made a pass from the goal line to the slot and Mason McCormick put it away for his second of the season at 5:51. The Tigers tied the game at 6:24 when Logan Will scored from the right circle. The Falcons answered again as Parker Brown carried the puck in deep on the power play and set up Andrew DeCarlo in the slot at 14:03.
Brian Adams gave the Falcons a 4-2 lead at 3:36 of the second period. Austin Schwartz gave the puck to Hedden at the point and his shot was saved. The puck was loose in the slot and Adams collected it, spun around and scored his second of the season. Less than a minute later, Tiger Noah Prokop won a faceoff in the offensive zone and his wrap-around shot was saved. He regained the puck and fired a shot from the left point that was redirected by Tommy Middleton at 4:23. Midway through the second period, Koch scored two power play goals in a span of just over two minutes. Schwartz drew a penalty giving the Falcons a man-advantage. Will Gavin sent a puck down low for Nate Horn and Horn found Koch at the right point for his wrister at 7:29. After Jake Marti drew a penalty, the Falcons capitalized again. Willie Reim sent the puck out from behind the goal to Lucas Coon. Coon gave the puck to Koch who scored from the left point at 9:29.
After nine goals were scored in the first 30 minutes of the game, neither team scored in the final 30 minutes.
The Tigers pulled the goalie with 2:47 left in the third period, but Guy Blessing made four saves and the Falcons blocked three shots to preserve the victory.
Colorado College (3-5-0) outshot Air Force, 29-22. Air Force was 3-for-5 on the power play and killed all five of the CC power plays. Blessing made 26 saves for the Falcons. Matt Vernon made 16 for the Tigers.
"Tonight's game was everything that last night was not," head coach Frank Serratore said. "Give our guys a lot of credit to bounce back the way we did. We played a good complete game and I couldn't have asked for more from the guys. We managed the game much better. We had a calmness about us tonight. Our team was so depleted due to injuries, but we had a lot of guys step up tonight."
Air Force (3-4-1 overall) hosts a non-conference series with Alaska-Anchorage, Nov. 4-5, at the Cadet Ice Arena.
