Air Force Pulls Away To 64-51 Win Over MVSU In Collegiate Hoops Roadshow Game

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force men's basketball (3-3) made 13 three-point baskets en route to a 64-51 win over Mississippi Valley State (1-6) as part of the Collegiate Hoops Roadshow Multi-team Event Monday night at Clune Arena. Senior guard Camden Vander Zwaag continued his hot shooting, making seven three's, which led to a career-high 22 points as the Falcons won its second straight game by double-digits.
Air Force shot 52 percent from the field and had a season-high 18 assists, while committing a season-low seven turnovers.
The Falcons took control of the game early, torching the MVSU zone defense with seven three's, which led to a 30-19 halftime lead.
The Delta Devils got the game to within seven points to start the second half, but a 12-0 run by Air Force put the game out of reach. The Falcons shot 59 percent from the field in the second half.
Vander Zwaag was named Collegiate Hoops Roadshow MVP for the games played at Air Force. The senior averaged 21 points per game in the wins over USC-Upstate and MVSU. He went 7-of-10 from three against MVSU, which was the most three's in a game since Michael Lyons hit seven against The Citadel in 2012.
Joining Vander Zwaag with Hoops Roadshow honors, were freshman Corbin Green and sophomore Jake Heidbreder, who were both named to the CHRS All-Tournament team. Green scored 13 points, with four highlight-reel dunks, to go with five rebounds and three blocked shots. Heidbreder made a pair of three's and added four assists.
Sophomore guard Ethan Taylor had a season-high six assists. Senior Carter Murphy led the bench with seven points in 13 minutes, going 3 of 5 from the field. Sophomore Beau Becker scored five points off the bench as well.
Sophomore Byron Brown made his first appearance of the season and freshmen Kellan Boylan and Wyatt Bell made their collegiate debuts in reserve.
Forward Alvin Stredic led MVSU with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Terry Collins and Kadar Waller added 11 points each.
Air Force returns to action Sunday, Nov. 27, hosting Montana. The game tips at 1 pm MT and will be broadcast on Altitude and simultaneously streamed on the Mountain West Network.
