DAVIS, Calif.- Air Force placed third out of the four teams at today's quad meet on the campus of UC Davis, posting a team score of 193.550.
"We did some powerful gymnastics," said head coach Jennifer Green. "We will go back into the gym and straighten out the little details."
UC Davis claimed the top spot overall with a team score of 196.325, followed by Texas Women's University (194.275), Air Force (193.550), and Alaska-Anchorage (191.900).
Ayla McKean's 9.800 on the vault was a career-high for the freshman, as she placed fifth in the event. Her 39.050 all-around score was good for third among all qualifiers, nearly matching her 39.100 career-best all-around total. Following a high-scoring day on the floor exercise, McKean's 9.875 placed her sixth among all competitors.
Genevieve Sabado was the lone Falcon to place in the four events, as her 9.800 was good for a share of third on the apparatus. She finished sixth among the seven all-around qualifiers.
Briona Carswell managed a 9.825 on the balance beam, sharing fifth place. Cameo Stapleton's 9.850 on the floor was her third-highest score of 2022.
"We have an extremely young team and are making some uncharacteristic mistakes," said Green. "However, we are on the rise! We will iron out those details and be ready for the tough two weeks ahead of us."
Next, Air Force returns home for Senior Night on Friday, February 25, as the Falcons face off with Sacramento State. The event is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm MT.
