ANCHORAGE, Alaska- In Air Force's final dual meet of 2022, the Falcons maintained a sense of poise, defeating Alaska-Anchorage 194.200-185.875.
"They worked all night long," said head coach Jennifer Green. "It wasn't an easy performance, however they had a lot of grit and kept fighting."
Air Force claimed first-place finishers in all four events, all by four different gymnasts. Amber Boll (9.775) finished in the top spot in the vault, with Ayla McKean (9.825) winning the uneven bars.
As well, Genevieve Sabado won the beam with a 9.775 and shared first-place honors with Cameo Stapleton after their respective performances on the floor. Both gymnasts were judged for a 9.875 in the event.
The Falcons were the only side to produce any all-around qualifiers. Sabado's 39.050 overall score was first, with her teammates Velandra Brochi and McKean just behind her with respective totals of 38.900.
Freshman Leilani Zander garnered the highest score of her budding collegiate career, finishing second on the beam with a 9.750.
"Leilani stepping in at the last minute and anchoring the beam was huge!" said Coach Green.
Brochi was a third-place finisher in two of her four events, including the vault (9.700) and uneven bars (9.775).
"We need to focus on rest, recovery, and the little details," said Coach Green. "Those are the most important things in postseason play."
Next, Air Force heads to the MPSF Championships on the campus of UC Davis. The event is scheduled to begin Saturday, March 19 at 3:00 pm MT.
