COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- For only the fifth-time since the program's inception, Air Force eclipsed the 195-point threshold, posting a team total of 195.400 on Friday against San Jose State.
In spite of San Jose State taking the dual after producing a 196.325 score of its own, Air Force still managed its third-highest team total since 2013. The Falcons scored no less than 48.900 in the four events.
The girls were amazing tonight," said head coach Jennifer Green. "They owned their commitments and we didn't worry about things we couldn't control."
Ayla McKean was Air Force's highest finisher in the all-around, collecting a 39.050. McKean's highlights included a share of third-place in the floor exercise (9.800) and a sixth-place finish in the vault (9.725). Genevieve Sabado gave Air Force one of its higher individual placements, as her 9.850 beam score was good for a share of second. Sabado's all-around score wound up being 38.950.
The Falcons have seen their bars score improve over each of the last three weeks, including tonight, as Air Force's lineup crafted a season-best 49.025. Friday becomes only the third occasion in program history the Falcons have surpassed 49 points on the bars.
Amber Boll led the Falcons in the event, as her 9.850 score following her uneven bars routine was good for a second-place tie. Grace Nelson (9.825), Grace Bardes (9.800), and Velandra Brochi (9.775) all produced new season-bests as well. Brochi's 38.975 all-around score was also the highest total she's managed thus far in her freshman season.
Including Friday, Air Force has averaged a 194.75 score over its last three events.
"It's so fun to see them believe in themselves and take command of each event," Green said. "We couldn't be prouder. Start to finish, they did their job. We aren't done yet!"
Next, Air Force hits the road for quad action in Denton, Texas as the Falcons face off against host Texas Women's University, Oklahoma, and Southeast Missouri State. The event is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm MT.
