Garrett Braunton posted the team's top scores in four of the six events.
STANFORD, Calif. – The 12th-ranked Air Force men's gymnastics team registered a season-high score of 380.600 this afternoon (March 5) during a triangular against a pair of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foes – top-ranked Stanford (419.000) and eighth-ranked California (390.500) – at Burnham Pavilion on the Stanford campus.
The Falcons tallied a season-high 62.600 on the high bar – a seasonal improvement of nearly three points – to take second in that event, while also adding their highest score of 2022 on the still rings with a tally of 63.050. Sophomore Garrett Braunton was the squad's leading finisher in both events, scoring a 13.250 to take fourth on the high bar and a 13.200 to finish seventh on the rings. Braunton was one of three Falcons to finish within the top eight of the high bar standings, as classmate Oliver Zavel finished sixth (season-best 12.950) and freshman Erich Upton placed eighth with a career-best 12.650. Zavel also collected a top-eight finish on the still rings, as he tallied a season-best 13.050 to finish eighth.
Braunton also accounted for the team's top finishes on the vault (fifth, 13.950) and pommel horse (sixth, career-best 13.250), while seniors Collin Hickey and Noah Everett rounded out the Falcons' list of event leaders by earning the team's top scores on the floor exercise (eighth, 13.300) and parallel bars (ninth, career-best 13.250), respectively.
The Falcons return to the Academy next week, as they close out the regular season with back-to-back Saturday meets at Cadet West Gym. Air Force begins its homestand with a March 12 triangular meet against Nebraska and service academy rival Army West Point.
