Falcons Wrap up Action at Fresno State

CLOVIS, Calif. – Highlighted by 12 Top 10 finishes and four improvements to Academy Record Book, the Field portion of the Air Force track and field team wrapped up competition at the Fresno State Invitational this evening (April 30) at Veterans Memorial Stadium – site of the upcoming MW Outdoor Championships.

Sophomore Alexxis Brown unleashed a career-best javelin distance of 152'1" – an improvement of nearly six feet – to finish fourth in the 23-thrower event and move up to sixth on the program's all-time standings, while senior Frankie Porambo matched her personal-best – and Air Force No. 10 – pole vault clearance of 12'5½" to claim a 12th-place finish in that event.

Porambo was one of two Falcons to place within the top half of the 29-competitor pole vault, as classmate Erika Willis accounted for the same clearance – a seasonal best – to finish seventh, based on attempts. Sophomore Katie Thompson matched one of the best all-condition long jump marks in Air Force history, as she recorded a leap of 19'2¾" (+2.1m/s) to finish third out of 27 athletes, while senior Ari Martinez rounded out the women's list of top 10 finishers with a fourth-place height of 5'7" in the high jump.

Two members of the men's team also impacted the Academy's all-time standings during the trip. Freshman Ben Charlebois added more than a foot to his career clearance in the pole vault (16'8") to finish fourth out of 20 vaulters and debut at No. 22 on the program's historical rankings, while junior Jace Pittman posted a career-best hammer throw distance of 176'9" – a four-foot personal improvement – to debut at No. 25 in the Air Force Record Book during the only event to be contested on Friday.

Sophomore Caiden Macktinger added a career-best 16'2" to take sixth in the pole vault, while the high jump trio of senior Jake Hall (fourth, 6'9"), freshman Jalan Rivers (sixth, 6'7") and classmate Collin Schulz (seventh, 6'5") all finished within the top seven of that 20-athlete event.

Senior LaShawn Taylor captured a third-place distance of 48'0¾" in the triple jump, while also accounting for the best all-condition long jump of his career (22'8½, +2.6m/s). His 11th-place finish in the 26-athlete event was less than an inch behind sophomore teammate John Colizzi, who posted a top 10 distance of 22'9¾" (10th). Sophomore Teagun Glenn accounted for a career-best distance of 194'0" to place fourth out of 25 athletes in the javelin throw, while classmate Gerrit Tamminga finished within the top half of the field in the discus throw after posting a career-best 167'0".

The Falcons close out the regular season next Friday (May 6), when they host the annual Air Force Twilight Open – the final tune-up before the conference meet – at the Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
