Falcons finish 3rd at MPSF Championships
-At the 2022 MPSF Championships, Air Force placed third with a team score of 193.750, behind conference winner San Jose State (196.425) and runner-up UC-Davis (196.050).
-Briona Carswell gave Air Force it's highest single-event total, as the junior was credited with a 9.825 on the beam. Carswell's beam total was good for a sixth-place tie.
-Genevieve Sabado and Cameo Stapleton split team-bests following the floor exercise, where the pair was given identical 9.800 totals. The two shared 12th place.
-Ayla McKean, as well as Genevieve Sabado were the Falcons two all-around qualifiers.
-Sabado's four-event total added up to a 38.850, with McKean's 38.825 in hot pursuit.
-McKean's highest score of the afternoon was a 9.775 following her uneven bars routine, where she took a tie for 7th.
-The Falcons most well-received event was the floor exercise where the women were judged for a 48.850 collective total.
-Along with Sabado and Stapleton, senior Daija Stevenson (9.775) shared 15th-place in the event, while Carswell (9.750) was just behind her teammate tied for 17th place.
-McKean was the other Falcon gymnast in the floor exercise lineup, scoring a 9.725 to place her 20th.
Sabado named MPSF Freshman of the Year
-Genevieve Sabado was a conference-high four-time recipient of the MPSF Freshman of the Week award in 2022.
-She competed in all 12 Falcon events during the regular season.
-Her 466.25 total all-around points lead all Air Force gymnasts, while her 116.875 points on the balance beam and 117.4 points on the floor exercise are also the most on the team.
-Sabado became only the fourth Air Force gymnast to record a 9.900 on the balance beam (Feb. 11). -Her 39.300 all-around score on Feb. 5 was tied for the second-highest in Academy history.
-She totaled 16 first-place finishes (6 AA, 5 BB, 3 FX, 2 UB) in the 2022 regular season, and played a vital role in Air Force recording separate scores of 195.700 and 195.400, two of the four highest scores in team history.
-Sabado owns a 39.035 national qualifying score, second-best among first-year MPSF Gymnasts and No. 6 overall.
-Sabado is also tied for third in the MPSF on beam (9.840), and eighth on both floor (9.835) and bars (9.800).
-Sabado is the first-ever Air Force MPSF Women's Gymnastics Freshman of the Year, and the first from the Academy to earn an end-of-the-year major award in over a decade (Brittany Dutton-2011, Abbey Rogers-2008 & '09 as gymnasts of the year).
Brochi, Boll, McKean, and Stapleton pick up MPSF Honors too
-Along with Sabado, who received First-Team All-Conference honors on the balance beam and Second-Team honors on the uneven bars, floor exercise, and all-around, Velandra Brochi, Amber Boll, Ayla McKean and Cameo Stapleton all were named to their respective All-Conference teams.
-Brochi, named to MPSF's Second-Team in the all-around, avereaged a 38.960 AA score in her freshman season.
-Boll's 9.790 NQS on the bars was good for Second-Team honors.
-McKean received First-Team honors in regards to the all-around, averaging a 39.045, and was also named Second-Team All-Conference in the uneven bars (9.805) and vault (9.770).
-Stapleton, a specialist on the floor, was named First-Team All-Conference in the event (9.850).
On the Rise
-Air Force's 194.670 national qualifying score in 2022 is the highest NQS in program history.
-The Falcons have scored three of the top-ten team scores in program history in 2022.
2021 USAG Nationals Recap
-The women's gymnastics team concluded the 2021 campaign with eight All-Americans earning 11 accolades at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships.
-Cam Barber, Daija Stevenson, Pixie Brock, Tyler Davis and Grace Bardes were all selected to compete in the individual finals.
-Stevenson, who earned first-team honors in the all-around, vault and floor exercise, notching her sixth career All-American accolade, competed on the vault and floor, placing eighth and ninth, respectively.
-Barber, who picked up first-team All-America status on the bars and beam, competed in both events in the finals. She finished seventh and sixth respectively.
-Bardes in her first appearance in the finals, earned first-team All-America honors on the bars, where she went on to finish sixth in the field.
-Brock, who earned her first career USAG All-America nod on the floor, competed in the finals to finish tied for sixth in the event with a 9.800.
-Teammates Val Smith and Briona Carswell earned second-team honors on the beam while Natalie Meyer took second-team honors on the floor exercise.
-The honors marked a first for Smith, and a second for Carswell and Meyer in the same event.
