BOULDER, Colo. – Air Force senior Cameron Harris clocked the eighth-fastest hurdles time in Air Force history this morning (Jan. 14), as several members of the Air Force track team capped a weekend of competition at the Potts Invitational in Boulder.
AIR FORCE TOP 10 MARKS
No. 8 – Cameron Harris, 60-Meter Hurdles (7.92)
Harris, who had to complete the preliminary round twice due to an issue with the sensor during the first race, posted a career- and qualifying-best 7.92 finish in the second attempt. Becoming just the third Falcon in 19 years to run a sub-eight in the hurdles, Harris accounted for the fastest time by a Falcon in six years and the eighth-fastest time in Academy history.
The senior, who earned the top collegiate finish – and placed second overall – in the finals with another sub-eight performance (7.99), led Air Force to half of the top-eight finishes in the finals, as sophomore Darek Hackett clocked a season-best time of 8.18 to finish fifth and the junior duo of Seth Meador and Philip Hundl took seventh (8.32) and eighth (8.39), respectively.
Senior Jacob Trach also impacted the men's record book on Saturday, as he posted a career-best time of 6.86 to debut at No. 21 on the all-time standings. Trach, who clocked a 6.91 during the preliminary heat, knocked that time down to 6.86 during a fourth-place finish in the finals. Fellow senior Zac Larrier claimed first-place honors in the 200-meter dash, as he posted a season-opening time of 21.47 to win the 38-sprinter event and guide the Falcons to three top-10 finishes. Sophomore Javin Bostic and freshman Jett Rose finished fifth (career-best 21.65) and 10th (22.01 debut), respectively, in the 200-meter sprint, while three more Falcons – Hackett (22.27, 13th), junior Brandon Lindner (22.43 debut, 15th) and classmate John Colizzi (22.51 debut, 16th) – finished within the top half of the overall field. Hundl, Larrier, Bostic and Hackett also combined for a fourth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (3:21.32).
Junior Ryan Child and freshman Max Sannes earned top-10 finishes in the 3000-meter run, while Air Force placed all four of its runners within the top half of the 29-runner field. Child ran a raw time of 8:38.64 to finish seventh, while Sannes added a time of 8:42.18 to place ninth in his collegiate debut on the track. Sannes' teammates Zach Ayers and Brenton Maddox went 1-2 in the opening section to finish 12th (8:45.85) and 13th (8:47.49), respectively, in the overall standings of their first collegiate meet.
On the women's side, junior Rachel Crytser led a small contingent of Falcons with a runner-up finish in the mile, while the 4x400-meter relay of sophomore Taylor Rioux, freshman Sam Loida, junior Amanda Fraga and senior Katie Van Havel earned the same placement in the 4x400-meter relay.
Crytser crossed the finish line in a career-best time of 5:01.39 to take second in the full 20-runner field, while her altitude-converted time of 4:54.04 is the 14th-fastest mark in program history. The junior was one of two Falcons to place within the top half of the mile, as senior Maddie Edwards added a time of 5:10.57 to finish 10th. The relay, which closed out the squad's weekend in Boulder, combined for a time of 4:04.16 to place second against their Front Range counterparts and, in addition to leading off the relay, Rioux picked up a 10th-place time of 25.55 in her first 200-meter dash of the year.
Air Force returns to the Academy next week to host the Ralph Lindeman Invitational on Jan. 19-21.
