
Women’s Gymnastics Takes Second at TWU Quad

DENTON, Texas – There was a tangible energy surrounding the Air Force women's gymnastics team in Kitty Magee Arena on Friday evening, as the Falcons compiled a 193.725, good for second place in Air Force's first road event of the 2023 season.
Sophomore Ayla McKean earned the all-around title with a score of 38.175. McKean's performances throughout the night were highlighted by a 9.675-point showing on the uneven bars, good for a fourth-place finish in the event.
The Falcons claimed a team victory in the vault (48.450) behind a tied-for-second-place finish for senior Amber Boll. Boll, posting a 9.800, improved upon her season-opening performance by five hundredths. Freshman Kylee Greene just trailed, posting a 9.725, good for fourth in the event.
Greene coupled her vault performance with a 9.825-point showing in the floor exercise – the team's highest score of the evening, and good for second place. Sophomore Velandra Brochi followed up with a 9.800, filing in at fourth.
Sophomore Briona Carswell tied for first place on balance beam, earning a score of 9.850 – just five hundredths short of tying her career high in the event, and earning back-to-back top-five finishes in the opening week of the 2023 season. Boll finished tied for fourth with a 9.825, .025 short of tying her career high in the event.
Madison Carlisle took a step forward in the early stages of her intercollegiate career, as the freshman scored took third place (9.700) on the uneven bars, and sixth in the floor exercise with a 9.750, setting a new career-high.
Along with the first-place finish in the vault, Air Force finished second as a team in all three remaining events, posting a 47.800 on uneven bars, 48.675 on balance beam, and a 48.800 in the floor exercise, and improving total scores in three of four events on the night compared to Monday's home opener.
Seven separate Falcons across all four rotations improved upon their scores in each respective event from their season debut on Monday.
Next up, the Falcons head to the west coast to take on UC Davis on Jan. 29.
