Falcons Split the Country to Face Nation's Elite

The Air Force track and field team splits up to take on some of the nation's elite in a pair of meets this weekend (Feb. 10-11). The majority of the squad will travel to Albuquerque for the Don Kirby Invitational, while a select number of distance runners will head to Boston for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
MEET INFORMATION: DON KIRBY INVITATIONAL
The Don Kirby Invitational will be held at the Albuquerque Convention Center (401 2nd St NW) – site of the upcoming conference championships – on Feb. 10-11. The meet will be streamed on FloTrack, while live results will be available via Record Timing (direct links to both are available on the team's schedule page at GoAirForceFalcons.com).

The Don Kirby Invitational will feature athletes from Adams State, Air Force, Akron, Alabama, Arizona, Boise State, Boston, Cal Poly, California, Colorado State, Eastern Washington, Florida State, Fort Lewis, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Illinois, Liberty, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, New Mexico Highlands, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Notre Dame, Oregon, Oregon State, Sacramento State, San Diego State, San Jose State, SMU, Texas Tech, Trinidad State, UCLA, UNLV, Utah, Utah State, UTEP, Washington State, Western Colorado, and Wyoming.

The David Hemery Valentine Invitational will be also be held over the Feb. 10-11 weekend, with the women running on Friday and the men on Saturday. The meet, which will run on a rolling schedule, will be held at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center (100 Ashford Street). The meet will be streamed on FloTrack, while live results will be available via Lancer Timing (direct links to both are available on the team's schedule page at GoAirForceFalcons.com).
HERE vs THERE
Air Force head track and field coach Scott Steffan, a native of Aztec, N.M. and UNM alum, is the only member of either travel roster to visit their home state this weekend, although volunteer coach 2Lt AJ Kedge (Albuquerque) and junior thrower Teagun Glenn (Rio Rancho) also hail from the Land of Enchantment.
SQUAD GOALS
With a combined time of 54:52.78, the men's 5000-meter quartet of Sam Gilman, Eli Bennett, Ryan Johnson, and Sean Maison are ranked second in the Feb. 6 edition of the USTFCCCA #EventSquad rankings – which are determined by the cumulative season-best marks from a team's top-four athletes on the national descending order list. The men's pole vault lineup of Caiden Macktinger, Ben Charlebois, Connor Munson, and Robert Postell is also listed among the nation's top 15 (No. 12, 65'11"), while quartets from the 60-meter hurdles (No. 16 – Cameron Harris, Darek Hackett, Seth Meador, Philip Hundl: 32.47) and high jump (No. 18 – Jalan Rivers, Gabe Grim, Hundl, Collin Schulz: 26'6") are listed within the top 20.
AIR FORCE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Highlighted by top-20 marks in the 5000-meter run from Sam Gilman and Halle Hamilton, three Falcons are listed among the nation's Top 25 in the latest TFRRS standings. Gilman is listed 11th in the men's 5000-meter event with a time of 13:25.64, while Hamilton is ranked 19th in the women's race with a career-best time of 15:51.39. Caiden Macktinger rounds out the Falcons' list of Top 25 athletes, as he is ranked 24th in the pole vault with a career-best clearance of 17'6½".
COMING UP
The Falcons close out the indoor portion of their home schedule next Friday (Feb. 17), when they host the Air Force Collegiate Open at the Cadet Field House. The meet, the last competition before the Mountain West Indoor Championships, will also serve as the final meet with the current configuration of the Academy's Indoor Track, which will begin a major renovation at the conclusion of the indoor season.
