With some momentum behind them after a 2-1 weekend at USAFA, the Air Force women's tennis team heads to Phoenix on Saturday, taking on Grand Canyon in the Falcons' final non-conference match of the spring.
Falcons at a Glance:
In doubles play, Air Force is 8-2 on the year as a team behind a 6-0 start for duo Abby Cotuna/Isabella Flodin on flight two; On court one, Falcon pairing Sydney Fitch/Alexis Odom are 5-1 after starting off with five-consecutive wins; Courtney Swift/Andrea Le are 5-3.
In singles competition, freshman Arianna Van Houweling leads the Falcons in wins at 6-2 on the year.
Overall, Air Force is 16-6 (.727) in dual doubles, and 26-28 (.481) in singles.
Last Time Out:
Playing its third match in a 24-hour stretch, Air Force fell 5-0 to No. 39 Denver on Sunday March 5 in the East Gym.
Opening with doubles play, Falcon pairs Sydney Fitch/Alexis Odom and Courtney Swift/Andrea Le both fell 6-1, clinching the doubles point for DU. Air Force is now 8-2 as a team in doubles play.
In singles on court three, Odom took Denver's Britt Pursell to a third set but fell 7-6.
On court five, Abby Cotuna took her first set, 6-2, before the remainder of her match was called.
Grand Canyon:
The 4-6 Lopes enter Saturday's match following a 5-2 home loss at the hands of Baylor, but held a four-match win streak prior to the loss.
Graduate senior Madeline Lamoreaux at 6-4 sports three-straight wins, including a three-set win on line five against Baylor's Paula Baranano; Junior Santa Strombacha leads singles for the Lopes at 7-2.
Strombacha and senior Natasha Puehse lead GCU doubles production at 6-2, on a six-match streak.
