U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Former high-profile standout in the state of Florida and current high performance tennis coach Kinga Gartner was named assistant coach of the Air Force women's tennis team, the program announced on Tuesday.
Gartner, from Pompano Beach, Fla., stands as the inaugural hire of first-year head coach Taylor Hollander. Harkening back to Hollander's ties to the University of North Florida and her connections to the Sunshine State, Gartner was a sophomore transfer to Atlantic Sun powerhouse UNF, where she competed from 2016-19 after serving her freshman season at Arizona. In those three years, Gartner blossomed as one of the state's top collegiate competitors, composing a 43-26 overall record and contributing to three-consecutive ASUN titles for the Ospreys during her tenure.
Gartner, a two-time five-star junior recruit and Blue-Chip recruit, posted a 6-2 record against opposing five-star candidates in her senior season, was ranked as high as 17th in the nation during her scholastic career (38th at graduation) and finished as the No. 8-ranked junior in Florida in 2014. During that stretch, Gartner won the prestigious Big Hitter's Sectional without dropping a single set – A tournament with a high-profile list of previous winners which includes former University of Florida assistant coach Lauren Embree and ITF pros Katerina Stewart and Danielle Collins.
Gartner's tennis ledger includes a number of years of service as a coach at multiple clubs in New York and Florida, teaching at the historic Bedford Golf & Tennis Club (New York), Chestnut Ridge Racquet Club (New York) and Boca West Country Club (Miami).
Additionally, Gartner has a proven track record as an administrator and brand champion of the sport, with extensive experience in fundraising, organizing, and promoting tennis exhibitions, along with 13 years of experience as a USTA tournament director and four years of recruiting and tennis sales knowledge with Match Point Tennis.
From Coach Hollander on Gartner:
"I first heard about Kinga's tennis when she was an 8th grader, and I was playing 18's. Kinga was the "she's next" tennis talent in Florida and has had a lot of experience working with some top coaches as both a player and colleague. Kinga has a great work ethic, playing three years at a top-tier mid-major program in the University of North Florida, while balancing multiple tennis work titles during and after college for advancement. Kinga knows how to win, and she possesses the work ethic and dedication required to be great. The conference championships she competed in and NCAA tournament experiences are the kind of results we are targeting here at Air Force, and Kinga is another piece of the puzzle that will help us get there."
