
Falcons Conclude Competitive Rocky Mountain Open in Third Place

USAF ACADEMY – Air Force scored 392.750 at the Rocky Mountain Open, placing behind Oklahoma (420.350) and Nebraska (409.600), Saturday evening in Cadet West Gym. The Sooners claimed the top spot in each event.
The Falcons had their best showing on the floor exercise, scoring 68.800 behind Erich Upton's impressive 14.050. Upton placed fourth in the event with his season best score. Garrett Braunton and Tai Gopaul had solid showings with 13.850 marks, tying for eighth. Team captain Jake Sampier placed just behind, notching 13.650.
All five Falcons scored over 13.000 on the p-bars led by Charlie Miles 14.100, a career-best mark for the junior out of Houston, Texas. Upton and Braunton were just shy of the 14.000 mark, scoring 13.950 and 13.900, respectively.
Patrick Hoopes had another stellar pommel routine, scoring 14.500 despite a fall, finishing third in the event. On the high bar, Braunton led the charge with a 14.100 and third-place tie. Miles had the next best score for AF with a 13.150.
Upton and Gopaul led Air Force on the rings with 13.350 and a tie for seventh place. On the Vault, Brian Woffiden posted the high score for AF (13.900) followed by Jake Sampier with a 13.400.
Braunton led the Falcons in the all-around with a 79.150, a season-high mark and fourth-place finish.
Next up, Air Force travels to Frisco, Texas, to compete against Army and Navy at the All-Academies, February 10.
