USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- Collecting six first-place finishes and one Air Force Top 10 mark, the track and field team wrapped up competition at the Ralph Lindeman Classic this afternoon (Jan. 20) at the Academy's Cadet Field House.
The men earned four first-place finishes on the track, including one from junior Darek Hackett, who led the men to a pair of top-three finishes in the 60-meter hurdles. Hackett matched his career-best time of 7.94 – the No. 10 time in Air Force history – to win the hurdles final, while senior Seth Meador posted a personal-best, third-place time of 8.05 to move into a tie for No. 19 on the program's all-time list.
Junior Javin Bostic and sophomore Jettason Rose won the 60-meter (6.85) and 200-meter (21.46) sprints, respectively, while sophomore Ethan Ashley headlined a USAFA-heavy race in the mile (4:22.41). The men also earned a top-three finish in the 400-meter dash, as freshman James Warmbrod IV placed third with a time of 49.27.
From the field, sophomore Texas Tanner finished second in the shot put with a throw of 58'0¼", while senior Gerrit Tamminga (50'11", sixth) and freshman Mitchell Blakeslee (48'11½" debut, eighth) also placed within the top of the 23-thrower event. Senior Brandon Lindner picked up a third-place finish in the triple jump (47'10") and freshman Wyatt Curl used a career-best clearance of 15'7" to earn the same placement in the pole vault.
On the women's side, senior Rachel Crytser clocked a 5:09.66 to earn the top finish in an all-Air Force mile, while freshman Rachel Fereday led the Falcons to a 1-2 finish in the 800-meter run – as she (2:21.72) and sophomore Sam Loida (2:22.34) paced the final around the Cadet Field House.
The women also collected two of the top-three finishes in the 400-meter dash, as junior Taylor Rioux finished second in 55.63 and freshman Kori Leverenz placed with a time of 57.20. In addition, fellow freshman Allison Fernstrom debuted at No. 25 on the program's all-time standings, as she clocked a fifth-place time of 58.37.
One day after the meet and facility records for the women's pole vault were broken by Aikaterina Stefanidi, the men's pole vault standards earned a reset as Chris Nilsen, silver medalist at the 2020 Olympic Games, recorded a clearance of 19'1½".
The Falcons head back out on the road next week, when they travel to Albuquerque for the New Mexico Team Open on Jan. 26-27.
