Rippley leads the Mountain West in both shots per game (3.81, 32nd nationally) and shots on goal per game (1.81, 41st nationally).
A Look at San Jose State:
After going 0-11-5 overall and 0-5-3 in the Mountain West, San Jose State is still in search of their first win of the 2024 season. The Spartans have drawn in three conference matches against Boise State (T, 1-1), Wyoming (T 0-0), and New Mexico (T, 1-1).
Bella Flocchini leads the Spartans with four points from two goals and has totaled 16 shots on goal for a .485 shot on goal percentage. Flocchini's .514 shot accuracy ranks second in the Mountain West, while the goalkeeper, Shayla Sugai comes in at first in the Mountain West for saves per game (5.00, 60th nationally) and third in conference for saves (65, 103rd nationally). San Jose State ranks third in the Mountain West in saves per game (4.88, 94th nationally).
All-Time Versus the Spartans:
Air Force is 3-6-2 all-time against San Jose State which extends back to their first matchup, a 2-1 Falcon win in 1996. In the most recent contest, Air Force won 2-1 over the Spartans, but hold a split 2-2-1 record since 2018.
Last Time Out:
A pair of first-half scores left the Air Force Women's soccer team in a hole from which they could not climb out from on Thursday evening, as the Falcons fell, 2-0, at Fresno State.
Air Force logged nine total shots at the Fresno State net, with six forcing Bulldog goalkeeper Shivani Battaglia into saves. Sophomore Chase Borntreger and junior Eleanor Musgrove's two shots apiece led the Falcons, with both of Borntreger's attempts proving on-goal. Junior goalkeeper Kylie McElroy, back in the starting lineup, made a career high 10 saves on the night.
The Falcons ceded goals to Fresno State in the 15th and 41st minutes. In the opening score, Bulldog Haley Espinoza, driving up the right wing, got a cross in front of the Air Force net. Ciara Wilson redirected Espinoza's service to the right of Air Force keeper Kylie McElroy, where senior attacker Kaelyn Miller was able to drive in the 1-0 score.
Minutes before the break, Fresno State cleared its second goal off a deep shot from Sam Paepan. After McElroy warded off an initial shot attempt by Paepan established off of a free kick, Paepan emerged from the resulting scrum to get the scoring strike.
