Senior Madison Smith led Falcon scoring with 15 points (6-10 FG, 3-3 FT, 3 REB 4 STL); Junior guard Milahnie Perry earned 15, marking her 23rd-consecutive game scoring in double digits; Junior Emily Adams and sophomore Jayda McNabb both added 10 apiece.
Despite struggling to get out ahead early, Air Force (4-1, 0-0 MW) shot 52 percent from the field in the first half to help mitigate early foul trouble for the Falcons. UCCS, getting 13 free throw attempts in the first two quarters, only held a lead for 1:26 of the game – all in the first quarter. The Falcons led by six with two minutes remaining in the opening period, but the Mountain Lions went 4-5 from the stripe, building out a 6-0 run to even things out at the first quarter buzzer.
A McNabb shooting foul at the start of the quarter and a steal-turned-layup for Smith quickly added a five-point lead to the scoreboard, a lead which UCCS erased to tie the game once again at 19-all at the 7:55 mark. From there, a McNabb three and a pair of quick baskets for Perry and Smith both created off of steals on UCCS inbounds plays eventually built out a 19-2 Air Force run from which their opponent could not recover.
The Falcons, outscoring UCCS 19-9 in the third, led by as much as 31 points (70-39) midway through the fourth. UCCS mounted a 13-1 run down the final minutes of the game, scoring on four of their last five baskets, but time expired before the Mountain Lions could complete a comeback.
