Smith logged three of the Falcons' six steals in the quarter, getting to the line for an easy four points. McNabb went 3-3 and one from beyond the arc for seven third quarter points, helping lift Air Force to as much as a 14-point lead.
After building a sizable lead, it was a massive scoring drought for the Falcons that ultimately left Air Force in an overtime situation with the Tritons; The Falcons, after an O'Hollaren jumper at the 1:22 mark, went without a field goal for almost 14 minutes of play and scoring one point for the entire fourth quarter, as UCSD spent the fourth chipping away at its deficit, eventually tying the game at 60-all with six seconds remaining in regulation.
In overtime, UCSD bought its first lead of the game since the early minutes of the first quarter and scoring the first four points to build a 64-60 lead. A jumper from sophomore Alexis Cortez snapped the Falcons out of their scoring woes, pulling Air Force back within a point with 2:49 remaining. McNabb, earning the steal on what could have been a game-winning possession for UCSD, also earned the offensive board on the other side after a Perry missed shot, then made the second-chance basket to give the Falcons the ultimate lead. With 19 seconds to go, the Tritons sent Perry to the free throw line, who made both attempts to secure the win.
