Air Force Falls To UNLV On New Year’s Eve

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball dropped a 77-58 contest to UNLV (8-5, 2-0 MW) in Mountain West play on New Year's Eve Tuesday afternoon at Clune Arena. Senior guard Ethan Taylor led the Falcons with 14 points and eight rebounds.
UNLV shot 57 percent from the field and 56 percent from three-point range. Four Rebels reached double-figures in scoring, led by 16 points by guard Julian Rishwain.
The Falcons struggled on offense, shooting 33 percent from the field and 23 percent from three.
After going up 8-2 early on, the Falcons went ice cold from the field. UNLV countered with a 12-0 run to jump ahead 18-10. After a three by Beau Becker, the Runnin' Rebels added an 8-0 run to lead by double digits. Air Force went to halftime trailing 38-26.
The Falcons scored 32 points in the second half, but UNLV kept the pace, scoring 39 points.
Taylor added four three's on the day, giving him 200 for his career. Taylor is just the fifth Falcon in program history to reach 200 career three's. Taylor also led the Falcons with four steals.
Freshman guard Kyle Marshall joined Taylor in double-figures with 11 points. Marshall added five rebounds.
Freshman Sam Springer led the reserves with a career-high nine points. Springer went a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Becker, Air Force's leading returning scorer from a season ago, made his return to the lineup after missing the previous 11 games due to injury. Becker scored five points.
Sophomore Luke Kearney added a career-high nine rebounds, with his previous high being four. Freshman Yoda Oke made his collegiate debut for the Falcons, recording two points and a steal.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Jan. 4, hosting Wyoming. Tip time is slated for 3 pm MT and the game will be broadcast on Altitude2 and MWN.
