Falcons Impact Record Book During Opening Day in Chicago

CHICAGO – Highlighted by the fifth-fastest 3000-meter time in Air Force history, the track and field team made five improvements to the Academy's all-time standings this afternoon (Feb. 9), as the Falcons opened competition at the Windy City Invitational in Chicago.

Hamilton recorded a career-best time of 9:23.43 to finish seventh in Invitational section of the 3000-meter run and move into fifth in the Academy Record Book, while three freshmen added their names to the Top 20 of the women's all-time standings. Allison Fernstrom posted a personal-best time of 57.35 to move up 10 spots to No. 15 for 400 meters, while Ella Johnson debuted in the same placement for 5000 meters following a eighth-place time of 17:01.50. From the field, transfer Alex Brooks posted her best clearance at Air Force (12'5½") to debut at No. 16 on the program's pole vault standings – the third Falcon to clear the 12-foot bar this season.
In addition to the program's Top-20 improvements from Fernstrom and Brooks, the women earned a pair of top-10 finishes in those two events from junior Taylor Rioux and sophomore Nathalia Veal. Rioux earned runner-up honors in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 55.06 – a mark just 0.03 seconds off her PR and her own No. 3 time in program history – to finish second in the 27-runner event, while Veal tied for fifth in the pole vault with a clearance of 11'11¾". Senior Katie Thompson rounded out the women's list of top-10 finishers, as she recorded a leap of 18'0½" to finish eighth in the Invitational section of the long jump
Freshman James Warmbrod IV impacted the Academy's all-time standings during a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash – one of three top-three performances by the men's squad. Warmbrod registered a career-best time of 48.35 to finish third in the 24-runner event and move into 19th on the Academy's all-time standings, while senior Brandon Linder recorded a leap of 23'8¾" to finish second in the long jump and junior Robert Postell posted a season-best clearance of 16'3¼" to place third in the pole vault.
Sophomore Jayden Nats finished fifth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:19.17, while senior Sean Maison collected a seventh-place finish in the Invitational section of the mile behind a time of 4:00.97. Junior Javin Bostic finished eighth in the 60-meter dash after recording matching times of 6.81 in both the preliminary and final rounds, while senior Jett Knight (ninth in invitational 5000-meter run, 14:23.85) and sophomore Texas Tanner (10th in weight throw, 63'7") added top-10 finishes for the men.
The Falcons remains in Chicago tomorrow (Feb. 10) for the final day of the Windy City Invitational. Action is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. (CT) inside the Dr. Worrill Indoor Track Facility at Gately Park.
