CHICAGO – Several freshman members of the Air Force track and field team impacted the Academy's all-time standings this afternoon (Feb. 10), as the Falcons wrapped up competition at Windy City Invitational in Chicago.
The first-year trio of Liliane Aittama, Camryn Bodine and Rachel Fereday continued to rewrite the program's all-time standings in the 800-meter run. Aittama clocked an Air Force Freshman Class Record time of 2:09.20 to move into No. 3 on the program's all-time standings during a fourth-place finish in the 28-runner event, while Bodine moved up to No. 5 on the all-time list following a personal-best performance of 2:11.03. Fereday rounded out the record book rewrite, as she posted a time of 2:15.39 to improve her No. 17 time mark. Fellow freshman – and Illinois native – Anna Harden debuted at No. 10 on the Academy's all-time standings for 3000 meters after clocking a time of 9:35.50 in her event debut.
Aittama returned to the track less than an hour later to anchor classmates Kori Leverenz and Allison Fernstrom, as well as junior Taylor Rioux, to the third-fastest 4x400-meter relay in Academy history as the quartet finished ninth with a time of 3:46.36.
In addition to leading off the relay, Rioux posted a time of 24.68 – a mark just 0.11 off her own Academy Record – to finish ninth out of 24 runners in the 200-meter dash, while senior Rachel Crytser earned a 10th-place finish in the 3000-meter run after posting a time of 9:34.83.
A pair of first-year Falcons also helped the men's 4x400-meter relay debut on the program's all-time standings, as James Warmbrod IV and Jace Martin bookended juniors Darek Hackett and Cameron Breier to a fourth-place finish in the 14-team race and the No. 20 in Air Force history (3:14.50).
Sophomore Illinois native Jettason Rose picked up an event title in the 200-meter dash (21.61), while classmate Ben Scheller debuted at No. 25 on the program's all-time standings in the mile following a career-best time of 4:07.09. Junior Jason Renze also impacted the Academy's Top 25, as he used a personal-best 8:05.45 to finish 10th in the 3000-meter run and debut at No. 19 on the all-time list.
