Air Force meets with perennial powerhouse Stanford for the second-straight weekend, March 9, in Cadet Gymnasium. Action is slated for 2 p.m. MT.
A LOOK AT AIR FORCE
The Falcons rank 11th in NCAA men's gymnastics with a three-score average of 392.267. The Falcons' highest score of the season was at the All-Academies where they put up 397.250 to best Army and Navy.
Individually, Erich Upton has the top scores in four events: floor (14.500), rings (13.350), vault (14.650), and p-bars (14.000). Tai Gopual matches his high score on the rings while Charlie Miles matches his high score on the p-bars.
Patrick Hoopes is the Falcons' premier pommel horse specialist with a season best 15.200 in the event. He holds the Academy record of 15.300. Teammate Garrett Braunton is a top-three scorer in five events and leads the Falcons on the high bar with a 14.100.
A GLANCE AT STANFORD
No. 3 Stanford prepares for its second consecutive road meet, heading to the Rocky Mountains to square off against No. 11 Air Force at 1:00 p.m. PT. The Cardinal is coming off a big quad meet victory last Sunday in Berkeley, posting a 410.850 to knock off host No. 8 Cal, No. 5 Nebraska, and No. 15 Air Force. Stanford claimed four of the seven event titles in the meet, with Asher Hong collecting a pair of wins on pommel horse and vault. Jeremy Bischoff paced the field on high bar for his first event title of the season, while J.R. Chou collected the event crown on parallel bars.
LAST WEEKEND
Air Force posted a 386.800 to finish fourth behind No. 2 Stanford (410.850), No. 5 Nebraska (408.150), and No. 8 Cal (394.850), Sunday afternoon at Haas Pavilion. The Falcons had two gymnasts finish top-three on the pommel.
Air Force had its highest event score on the vault (67.150), led by junior all-arounder Erich Upton who scored 14.200 to finish in a three-way tie for seventh in the event.
