Air Force Wraps Up Action at Doug Max Invitational

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Highlighted by two first-place finishes and an Air Force Class Record in the hammer throw, the a small contingent of the track and field team wrapped up competition at the Doug Max Invitational this afternoon (April 28) in Fort Collins.

Junior Robert Postell recorded an career-best clearance of 4.91 meters (16'1¼") to win the battle between Air Force and Colorado State in the men's pole vault, while freshman Alex Brooks accounted for her best outdoor clearance at Air Force (3.75m, 12'4½") to finish second in the women's event and move up to No. 13 on the program's all-time standings. Senior Kasarah Hernandez posted a height of 3.60 meters (11'9½") to join Brooks in the top four of the women's event, while freshman Tanner Woodring added a top-five finish on the men's side with a fifth-place mark of 4.61 meters (15'1¼"). The Falcons' vertical lineup also earned a top-five finish from freshman Devin Jordan, who finished fifth in the high jump (1.93m, 6'4¾").

The women's hammer throw also received a record book update today, as Paige Birch unleashed a career-best throw of 50.18 meters (164'8") to finish fourth in the meet, move up to No. 11 on the Academy's all-time standings and break the program's Freshman Class Record that Olivia Korte had held since 2004.

Alexxis Brown picked up a first-place finish in the javelin throw – one of two top-five performances of the day for the senior. Brown, who finished fifth in the hammer throw (48.80m, 160'1") in the first event of the day, closed out the competition with a 42.13-meter (138'3") throw in the javelin – a distance that bettered the rest of the 11-athlete field by more than four meters. Classnate Teagun Glenn helped Air Force to a collegiate sweep of the javelin, as he was the top college-aged thrower in the men's event, recording a distance of 56.04 meters (183'10") to finish second overall.

On the track, sophomore Jayden Nats paced the Falcons' contingent with a runner-up finish in the 5000-meter run. Clocking in at 14:32.39, Nats was one of four finishers to better the old Meet Record – and one of three Air Force runners to earn a top-five finish at that distance. Classmate Tanner Lindahl joined Nats in the top-five of the men's race (15:16.79, fifth), while freshman Michaela Workman earned a fifth-place time of 17:51.33 in the 19-runner women's race. Senior Brian Hubbard posted a time of 22.21 to finish fourth out of 12 runners in the 200-meter dash, while freshman Ryan Hajek finished among the top half of the field in the 400-meter hurdles (54.91, fifth).

The Falcons return to the Academy later this week to host the Air Force Twilight Open and Senior Celebration on Friday, May 3. The meet, which will be held at the Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex, is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. (MT).
