U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force senior defenseman Luke Robinson earned an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Robinson will continue his education at the University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business to earn a master of science in business analytics.
Robinson is the first hockey player to earn an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship since Pierce Pluemer in 2020. He is the 75th Falcon to earn one and the first since baseball player Stevan Fairburn, Jr., in 2022.
Robinson was a two-year hockey team captain, as selected by his teammates and earned the Derek Hines Award as the nation's top unsung hero. Prior to the 2023-24 academic year, Robinson was selected as the Academy's Captain of Captains, representing the 27 intercollegiate programs to the Academy leadership, serving more than 1000 cadet athletes. A three-time Coaches' Association All-American Scholar, he carries a 3.96 cumulative grade point average.
The native of Nashville, Tenn., earned the team's Vic Heyliger Award and was a co-recipient of the Jim Bowman Scholar-Athlete Award. The Heyliger, voted on by the team, is the cornerstone of Air Force hockey. It is awarded to the player whose dedication, character, leadership and work ethic exemplifies Falcon hockey.
On the ice, he played in 118 of the possible 122 career games and had four goals, 15 assists and 19 points. His 132 career blocked shots were the most of any active Falcon. Robinson played a key role on the Falcon penalty kill that finished sixth in the nation at 84.8 percent. As a senior, he recorded the best statistical season of his career with two goals, seven assists, nine points and 44 blocked shots. His +6 plus-minus ratio in 2023-24 was the best among the Falcon defensemen.
The NCAA awards scholarships to 21 men and 21 women during each of the fall, winter, and spring seasons. The scholarships, worth $10,000 each, are awarded to student-athletes who intend to pursue advanced degrees in graduate or professional school. The student-athletes are evaluated on academics, athletics and community service.
