
Women’s tennis rings in fall competition with its hosting of the Bedford Cup in the Mountains

Air Force Women's Tennis opens fall competition on Friday with the hosting of the 2024 ITA Bedford Cup in the Mountains, set to begin at 9:15 a.m. at the outdoor tennis courts.
The field will consist of players representing the following institutions:
Air Force, Colorado State, Davidson, Denver, Idaho State, Montana State, New Mexico, South Dakota, Utah State, Wyoming.
Singles competition will comprise of five compass draws with a maximum of 16 players in each field. Three singles matches are guaranteed for each competitor.
Players will be entered into their respective draws based on coach input and UTR (Universal Tennis Ranking). All singles matches will be best-of-three tiebreak sets with full third sets. Doubles matches will be one tiebreak set to eight.
Doubles will consist of a single draw with a maximum of 32 teams, including a back draw for competitors dropping out of the first round.
Day one, the first two rounds of singles will be played out, followed by one round of doubles beginning at 9:15 a.m. On day two, the following two rounds of doubles and one round of singles will take place, beginning at the same time. Both stages of competition will be completed on Sunday at 9:45, followed by the presentation of awards.
Gidley Golden Ball Award
For the first time at the Bedford Cup, the winner of the Alpha singles draw will be presented with the Gidley Golden Ball – a golden ball represents a unique honor across the sport as one of the most coveted prizes in in USTA tennis. Along with attaining the Bedford Cup for themselves, the Alpha champion now will be honored as the top competitor of the event, overcoming a Level 1 draw in which only the top players qualify.
