Air Force Downed By Utah State Saturday

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball dropped a 87-58 contest to Utah State (17-2, 7-1 MW) in Mountain West play Saturday afternoon at Clune Arena. Senior guard Ethan Taylor led the Falcons with 18 points scored.
A pair of double-digit runs and three point shooting lifted Utah State to the win. The Aggies had a 14-0 run in the first half and a 13-0 run in the second. They also hit 16 three's on the day.
Utah State led 42-33 at the half. The Aggies raced out to a 18-6 lead after an early 14-0 run. Utah State hit 10 three's in the opening half and led by as many as 17. The Falcons fought back and cut the lead to eight points in the opening half, but the Aggies would lead by double digits at the break. Taylor kept the Falcons in the game with 14 points in the opening half, knocking down four three's.
The Falcons got the game down to six points early in the second half, trailing 44-38 two minutes in. After Air Force cut the USU lead to seven in the second half, a 13-0 USU run made it a 67-47. The Falcons were unable to get back in the game after.
Ian Martinez led four Utah State players in double-figures scoring with 16 points, knocking down four three's. Utah State shot 54 percent from the field and 52 percent from three.
Taylor also led the Falcons with six rebounds, four made three's. Luke Kearney, Kyle Marshall and Caleb Walker all scored nine points each. Walker had a carer-high five rebounds and Marshall had a career-high three blocked shots. Freshman Yoka Oke came off the bench and scored a career-high five points.
Air Force shot 38 percent from the field and 63 percent from the line.
Air Force returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Colorado State. Tip time is 7 pm MT from Moby Arena. The game will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network (MWN).
Notable: At halftime, Air Force honored former head coach Reggie Minton. Minton is the longest tenured head coach in program history, coaching the Falcons from 1984-2000.
