CORVALLIS, Ore. – Air Force Women's Basketball found itself within a single possession late in the game on Monday evening at defending West Coast Conference Oregon State. In a game of runs, it was the Beavers who struck last, outscoring the Falcons 9-2 to close out the game in a 60-49 Air Force loss at Gill Coliseum.
Junior and Oregon native Keelie O'Hollaren led Air Force with a season-best 13 points and three steals; Fellow junior Jordyn Devaughn scored 11 and senior Milahnie Perry added 10 and five assists; Jayda McNabb, with six points on the night, led Air Force in rebounding with seven.
Air Force trailed 17-8 after the first 10 minutes of play. Oregon State opened the game 3-4 from three-point range and closed out the quarter on a 7-0 run for a nine-point lead after one.
In the opening minutes of the second quarter, the Beavers' streak stalled, as O'Hollaren heated up and the Falcon defense ratcheted down. O'Hollaren dropped in a pair of threes, pushing her first half total to eight. The Falcons as a whole forced Oregon State into five turnovers before the second quarter media timeout, cutting the Air Force deficit to 22-18 with five minutes to go in the half. Despite Air Force forcing nine total second-quarter takeaways, Oregon State left the floor at the end of the half on a 10-2 run to lead 32-20.
The Falcons outscored Oregon State 16-11 in the third quarter. Air Force opened the second half on an 11-2 run, cutting Oregon State's lead back within three points at 34-31, but had to withstand another 9-0 Beaver streak. O'Hollaren's third-made three of the night and a Devaughn jumper left the Falcons with just a 43-36 deficit to work through in the final quarter.
At the start of the fourth quarter, four points at the free throw line for Devaughn laid the foundation for Air Force outscoring OSU 8-4 in the first four minutes, allowing Air Force to climb back into a 47-44 game with just over six minutes to go. After OSU's Nene Sow earned a pair of baskets in the post, another trip to the line and a pullup jumper for Devaughn held the Falcons within striking range with four minutes to go, but the Beavers managed to pull away late.
Air Force led Oregon State in free throw percentage (.690), points off turnovers (17), offensive rebounds (14), fast break points (six) and steals (11).
