After scoring an exciting season-opening win on Monday, Air Force Women's Basketball looks to carry early successes with them eastward, as the Falcons prepare to take on South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D. on Friday morning, 10 a.m. MT.
Last Time Versus South Dakota:
On Nov. 8 last season, a second-half surge allowed Air Force to overcome an 18-point deficit against South Dakota to defeat the Yotes, 73-66, in Clune Arena.
Behind now-graduate Madison Smith's game-high 23 points, it was Rapid City native Jayda McNabb's then career best 16 points and Milhanie Perry's 14 bolstering the Falcons' win. For the game, Air Force led South Dakota in steals (14), second chance points (19), points off of turnovers (20) and fast break points (16).
All Time Versus South Dakota:
Friday represents the rubber match in a 1-1 series between Air Force and South Dakota. Friday's game not only is the Falcons' first in Vermillion but also the Falcons' first-ever visit to the state of South Dakota in program history.
Last Time Out:
Short of Preseason All-MW guard Milhanie Perry on Monday, Nov. 3, the Falcons showcased their newfound depth in the Falcons' season opener, earning a 59-50 road win over in-state neighbor Denver in DU's Hamilton Gymnasium.
Junior Jordyn Devaughn and freshman Maddy Jensen paced Air Force scoring, both logging 13 points on the evening. Jensen, in her collegiate debut, shot an unblemished 5-5 from the field and 2-2 from three-point range. Junior Jayda McNabb finished the night with seven points, nine rebounds and five assists.
After a slow start, the Falcons rallied in the second quarter, going on an 18-2 run, pushing ahead of DU. In the second half, the Pioneers worked their way back into a narrow third quarter which Air Force managed to retake and hold the rest of the way.
Air Force led Denver in field goals (24), three-pointers (six), assists (11), offensive rebounds (12), steals (10), bench points (19), second-chance points (15) and turnover margin (+9).
