BOULDER, Colo. -- The Air Force distance team had a standout afternoon at the Colorado Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 1), as it combined for nine improvements to the Academy Record Book – including three Top 10 marks from members of the men's team – during their day in Boulder.
Dominykas Remeikis kicked off the day with the seventh-fastest mile in program history, as he raced out to an altitude-adjusted time of 4:01.19 (4:07.21 raw). Finishing second in the 49-runner event, Remeikis also set a new Sophomore Class Record for the program, taking time off a standard Matt Dorsey had held since 2015. The sophomore paced the Falcons to a pair of top-five finishes in the race, as senior Jason Renze placed fifth behind a raw time of 4:10.56. Renze's time, when converted for the altitude of Colorado's Indoor Practice Facility (4:04.45a) moved him up to No. 16 in the program record book. Overall, the Falcons placed four in the top 10 of the nearly 50-runner field, as junior Ethan Ashley and freshman Saketh Rudraraju finished seventh (4:12.44) and 10th (4:14.47), respectively.
Juniors Zach Ayers and Max Sannes debuted on the program's all-time standings in the 3000-meter run, as they closed out the night with a pair of top 10 marks. Ayers crossed the finish line in a time of 8:12.57 to win the 88-runner event, while his altitude-adjusted time of 7:58.91 is the eighth-fastest time in Air Force history. Sannes, in his first race since early in the cross country season, finished fourth in the meet (8:15.10) and debuted at No. 10 on the all-time standings (8:01.37a). The pair led Air Force to four top-10 finishes in the event, as sophomore Josh Razo placed seventh with a time of 8:23.52 and junior Tanner Lindahl finished ninth in 8:23.52.
Sophomore Jonah Hochstetler also impacted the program standings on Saturday, as he posted an altitude-adjusted time of 1:52.05 in the 800-meter run to debut at No. 22 in the record book – while his actual time of 1:52.77 placed him fifth out of 42 runners in the event.
On the women's side, seniors Ally Peterson and Halle Hamilton moved up the all-time standings in the mile during top-10 performances in the 63-runner event. Peterson finished seventh overall (5:00.41) and debuted at No. 12 in the record book behind an altitude-adjusted mark of 4:53.09, while Hamilton moved up to No. 20 all-time at Air Force (4:54.17a) following a ninth-place finish in the meet (5:01.52 raw).
