Air Force hits the road to take on Ohio State in Columbus, February 15. Action at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium is slated for 2 p.m. ET. The teams last met at the Academy last season, tOSU won the game, 12-4.
A Brief History
The Falcons and Buckeyes are meeting for the 26th time on Saturday— tOSU leads the all-time series, 20-5. Air Force and Ohio State have played twice in the last five years and 14 times in the last 20 years, taking a hiatus in meetings from 2014-2022.
The Falcons' last win was in 2014 where AF downed the Buckeyes, 14-7, in the first round of the ECAC Tournament, hosted in Columbus. The win in 2014 was the beginning of a historic run as AF beat No. 14 Fairfield to win the ECAC tournament and earn an NCAA Tournament bid. That season marked the Falcons' first Div. I NCAA Tournament win where they defeated Richmond in the NCAA play-in game.
The Buckeyes have won the last two meetings in recent history; winning 15-7 in Columbus in 2022, and 20-5 at USAFA in 2024.
A Look at the Buckeyes
Ohio State's only loss this season came from ASUN affiliate Utah who has a running rivalry with the Falcons. Since then, the Buckeyes are on a tear, winning three-straight against Detroit Mercy (14-4), Cleveland State (14-4), and another ASUN affiliate in Bellarmine (16-4). The Buckeye's held the three aforementioned teams to just four goals apiece.
Garrett Hass and Alex Marinier lead the scoring effort for the Buckeyes with 10 and 12 goals, respectively. Haas has five assists, two behind leading helper Griffin Turner who has seven. At the center dot, Jack Oldman has taken the lion's share of faceoffs winning 44-69 attempts (.683). In goal Claeb Fyok is the go-to man, holding an impressive 4.73 GAA with a .667 save percentage.
Last Weekend
The 14th-ranked Denver Pioneers handed Air Force a 14-8 loss in the Falcon Stadium opener, Saturday afternoon (Feb. 8), at USAFA. Five Falcons accounted for eight goals led by Wes Peene, Hunter Panzik, and Caelan Driggs who tallied two apiece. Josh Yago put up a goal with two assists while Peene and Driggs were credited with one assist each. Sophomore Nick Walter scored his first collegiate goal in the effort.
Ohio State picked up its third win in a week with a 16-4 victory over Bellarmine, Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 11) at the Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium. With the win over the Knights (1-2), Ohio State's fourth game in 11 days, the Buckeyes improve to 3-1 on the year.
Coming Up
The Falcons take the fight to New England as they face off against Boston University on Saturday, February 22. Action at Nickerson Field is slated for noon ET. The game marks the third meeting between the teams and first time playing since 2018. Boston U has not lost to Air Force.
