Patrick Hoopes Claims Silver Medal at Winter Cup

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Air Force senior pommel horse specialist Patrick Hoopes claimed the silver medal on his signature event this afternoon (Feb. 23), as he and classmate Erich Upton wrapped up two days of national competition at the annual Winter Cup meet in Louisville, Kentucky.
Recording a score of 13.950 on Sunday afternoon, Hoopes finished the annual Winter Cup meet with a two-day score of 27.750. The senior, who entered the day in fourth following a 13.800 outing on Friday night, posted the second-highest score of Day 2 to move into second in the overall standings (28 total competitors on the pommel horse).
Upton finished ninth in the Winter Cup all-around, with a two-day total of 152.750 after tallying a 76.100 on Sunday. His best event finish was a seventh-place score of 27.900 on the vault (14.250 on Day 1, 13.650 on Day 2), while he also placed within the top 10 on the floor exercise with a combined mark of 26.200 (13.100 both days). Upton also matched his Day 1 still rings score of 12.100 on Sunday for a combined 24.200, while adding a 25.350 on the parallel bars (12.700, 12.650), a 24.800 on the high bar (12.300, 12.500) and a 24.300 on the pommel horse (12.200, 12.100) to complete his total.
The Falcons remain off from team competition until Friday, March 14, when they head to New York for a triangular meet against Army West Point and Simpson.
