2/7/2025 11:57:00 AM | Men's Gymnastics
The 11th-ranked Air Force men's gymnastics team returns to the Academy this Saturday (Feb. 8) to host 10th-ranked California in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation dual meet inside Cadet West Gym.
MEET INFORMATION
Air Force's Senior Day dual mee with conference rival California will take place at 2:00 p.m. (MT) inside the Academy's Cadet West Gym. Admission is free. For fans unable to attend, the meet will be streamed live on the Falcons' YouTube page and live results are scheduled to be provided through the Virtius scoring system (direct links are available on the team's schedule page).
BASE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The U.S. Air Force Academy has temporarily adjusted the process to access the installation, which will affect Saturday's meet. While the installation remains open for events, if you do not have a DoD ID card, you will need to obtain a pass to enter the base. Spectators must request a base pass - INFORMATION AND LINKS FOR THIS WEEKEND'S ACCESS ARE POSTED AT GOAIRFORCEFALCONS.COM. Once you register, you will receive a message on your phone about approval. Each adult requesting a base pass must present a valid driver's license to scan at the gate. Spectators under the age of 18 with an approved adult are allowed to access the base for athletic events.
SENIOR SALUTE
Air Force will recognize its four seniors – Patrick Hoopes, Charlie Miles, Erich Upton, and Bryan Woffinden prior to Saturday's meet. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 1:45 p.m. (MT).
SCOUTING THE BEARS
California is currently ranked 10th in the NCAA with a season average of 307.767. The Bears are 0-4 on the season, with three of those losses coming from Stanford – including the most recent 309.150-316.260 defeat on Sunday Feb. 2. Individually, Aidan Li is ranked fifth on the pommel horse with a 14.033 average
AIR FORCE IN THE RANKINGS
Patrick Hoopes currently leads the nation on the pommel horse with a season-average of 14.650, while Erich Upton is ranked fifth in the all-around with a 78.175 average. As a team, the Falcons are ranked fifth on the pommel horse (53.075). Overall, Air Force is ranked 11th with a two-score mark of 305.275.
NEW RULES FOR 2025
The NCAA Men's Gymnastics Rules Committee announced that, beginning in 2025, meets will feature a "four-up, four-count" scoring system – lowering each event's lineup depth from five to four, while a maximum of 12 gymnasts will be eligible to compete each week (down from 15). The code of points has also changed for the 2025 season, as the requirements have shifted from 10 skills to eight per routine – an update that will lower the start values and final scores.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
Air Force will head to Fort Worth, Texas, next weekend to face Army West Point and Navy at the annual All-Academy Championships on Saturday, Feb. 15.
