Texas Tanner Resets Hammer Record for Second Straight Day
4/18/2025 9:28:00 PM | Track and Field
LONG BEACH, Calif. – For the second time in as many days, Air Force junior Texas Tanner had a record-setting performance in the hammer cage at Jack Rose Track. Less than 24 hours after resetting his own Mountain West, Service Academy, and Air Force Records at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, Tanner improved those marks by nearly two meters during a record-setting start to the Beach invitational.
The junior initially improved yesterday's 74.11-meter mark on his first attempt (74.15m), before launching the implement out to 75.83 meters (248'9") two attempts later. Tanner, who also surpassed the 75-meter mark on his final throw (75.38m), won the 56-thrower event by more than 10 meters – a stellar series that would have seen any of his six attempts win the meet by at least eight meters.
For the second day in a row, Tanner led Air Force to two of the top-four performances in the hammer throw, as senior Cooper Stroka finished fourth with a distance of 64.13 meters (210'4"). On the women's side, sophomore Paige Birch recorded a throw of 53.29 meters (174'10") to finish 16th out of 60 throwers in the hammer, while classmate Karli Neff cleared 3.50 meters (11'5¾") to finish within the top half of the overall field (seventh) in the pole vault.
The Falcons return to Jack Rose Track tomorrow (April 19) for the final day of the Beach Invitational.
