
Falcons Open Mountain West Action on the Road at Grand Canyon

PHOENIX, Ariz., - Air Force women's soccer (2-4-2) hits the road for their Mountain West opener at new conference addition, Grand Canyon (5-4, 0-1), on Sunday September 28 at GCU Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. MT.

All-Time Versus the Lopes
Air Force has played just a pair of matches against the Lopes, dating back to a 1-0 Falcon win in 2013. The two programs are tied at 1-1 as Grand Canyon won the most recent matchup, 2-0, last season.
Last Time Out
Air Force women's soccer closed out non-conference play and secured their second win of the season, 3-1, over Northern Colorado on Friday September 19 at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons saw a trio of goals by Jordan Dillingham, AJ Heap, and Kendall Rippley while Addie Doyle accounted for a career-high two assists in a single match. In goal, Trishelle Lopez tied her career-high with six saves.
Air Force came out on the front foot, controlling possession and earning five corners with a pair of shots in the first 17 minutes. At the 19' Ellie McCarron served in a corner that Dillingham buried with a hard-fought header, her first collegiate goal, and broke the deadlock. The Bears threatened to respond, but Lopez logged three saves to help preserve the lead.
The Falcons carried their momentum into the second half, spending vital time in the attacking third. In the 71st minute, Doyle managed to move the ball up the right flank before passing straight across for Heap to place the ball to the back of the net, logging her first goal as a Falcon.
Just seven minutes later, Doyle threatened the same side of the pitch but found junior Rippley this time, who managed her first goal of the season after her right-foot finish for a 3-0 advantage.
The Bears trimmed the deficit in the 81st minute after Air Force committed a handball inside the box, allowing UNC to capitalize and score of a penalty kick for a final score of 3-1.
On the Attack
The Falcons are averaging 1.25 goals per game, with ten total on the year. The attackers have been active in the offensive third with 14.4 shots per game, 49 of which were on goal, while nine Falcons have recorded at least one goal. Annika Jost currently leads Air Force with five points off two goals and an assist. Right behind Jost, Chase Borntreger and Kendall Rippley have logged one goal and an assist for three points apiece. Addie Doyle leads in assists, after marking a career high two in the win over UNC.
Defensive Command
Defensively, Jordan Dillingham has totaled a team-high 660 minutes playing an aggressive backline along with one goal against Northern Colorado, the first of her career. The pair of team captains, Samantha Sharp and Raine Komata along with Ava Carpentier have also made a statement in the midfield.
Freshmen Fight
Freshmen forwards, AJ Heap and Zahra Friess are showing up as strong forces for the Falcons. Heap scored her first collegiate goal against Northern Colorado after making five starts and appearing in all eight games so far this season. The Ogden, Utah native has totaled nine shots with four on goal in her 322 minutes of play. Friess earned her first career start against UNC and scored her first goal in the Falcon uniform at Eastern Washington, while logging four shots on goal in 306 minutes.

Freshman, Trishelle Lopez, has claimed the starting spot in sixFalcon games this season to total 540 minutes of play. The Cape Coral, Fla., native has managed 26 saves for a .743 save percentage. She posted a season-best performance against Rutgers, collecting her first collegiate shutout, a career-high six saves, and USAFA's Cadet Athlete of the Week honors. Lopez has recorded a trio of six-save matches.
Veteran goalkeeper, Kylie McElroy has taken a pair of starts to open the season, most recently at Gonzaga. She asserted her dominance in goal, collecting her first shutout of the season, 2-0, and recording a season-high seven saves.
How Air Force Stacks Up
The Falcons' 115 shots line up at ninth in the Mountain West, while the goalkeepers' 36 saves are ranked sixth. Addie Doyle is tied for ninth in comparison to MW opponents in assists (2) and falls at tenth in assists per game (.25). Trishelle Lopez's 4.33 saves per game sits at fifth in conference, as well as 94th nationally, while her 26 saves are tenth for the MW.
On the national level, Air Force finds themselves at 100th with 14.38 shots per game.

Tatum Hofstetter is responsible for a team-high seven points, off three goals and one assist. Overall, Grand Canyon has recorded 10 goals, averaging 1.11 per game, with 45 shots on goal out of 127 attempts. On the defensive side, goalkeeper Emma Knack has allowed 12 goals and logged 61 saves for five shut outs.
